651whp b series trans options
Hey all I'm weighing transmission options here. I am just wondering experiences and opinions. I am making 651whp on my b series setup.
I have been using simply a 4.4 ITR transmission with the only mod being a Speedfactory Scha
Recently I have a sheared a 4th gear, put a gsr one in for the meantime, then broke the diff. in the burnout box.
I'm weighing my options as far as what I should do to be cost effective yet somewhat reliable. I also need to be able to do ~150 in 4th.
My options that I have come up with are:
Keep my itr gearset
Get a handcuff
CC'd syncros
GearX 4.06 fd
Mfactory or Quaife helical lsd.
Torco RTF fluid
Or:
Use a GSR trans
CC'd syncros
Handcuff
Mfactory or Quaife helical lsd
Torco RTF fluid
Or I could save a good while and find a dog box.
I really don't want to go the dog box route so I'm wondering what your experiences are on the stock gears with a handcuff on roughly this power level.
Do you think it is just pointless to do one of these other transmission setups or do you think it will hold for a season or so?
I drag race it maybe once a month and street drive it maybe once a week.
In for your opinions and insight.
Thank you.

Wonder how that same setup would do around the 800whp range.
I've been debating on a dogbox setup. I'm glad this post was made.

One of my friends trashed like 5 stock trannies w/LSD last year at a little over 750whp. They'd last a little longer with the cuff in but every one of them eventually **** out 4th gear..

Made 630 on a dynojet. Bone stock gsr trans stock diff oem honda fluid and a comp stage 5. 30 hits last season. Pulled it apart last week to do a Mfactory diff and a twin disc and the thing looked perfect. Lets see if she can go another season.

Get an Albins syncro set if its a street car. you WILL break ANY OEM gearstack at that power if youre putting it down and beating it regularly. Period.
You dont NEED a dogbox, syncroed is fine... Look to the Albins. Its a nice piece. You wont dent it at 650

Sanman, what kind of weight is that CRX? Weight of the vehicle and overall tire height has a ton to do with this as well. All are factors in the stress on the transmission. Friends want me to take them for a pull on the highway in 4th and 5th. I have a full weight LX sedan. Add another 200lbs from a buddy, that puts me rolling at ~3000lbs. Not good on a stock transmission. Want that thing to last me for at least another season.
