Default has anyone ever use an indoor type Air Purifier machine in their car interior?

my friend brought over a used Hunter Air Purifier machine, with a Hepa filter, that he got cheap at a thrift store, and you plug it in the wall and turn it on and leave it running for a few hours in a room and it takes in all the dirty air and filters it and then comes out fresh.

i tried it in my bathroom for about 2-3 hours since it had a mold / mildew smell cause it does'nt have any type of fan or vent cause its an old place, and after running it, i noticed an obvious difference and my bathroom then had a smell like clean, fresh laundry, (sort of like a dryer sheet), but partly cause i have a canvas clothes hanger in the bathroom with shirts hung inside it, and somehow it must of took in the smell of the clean clothes and spread it around the bathroom, overtaking the mold/mildew smell it had previously ?

i was wondering if anyone has ever used this type of home / indoor type air purifier but in the interior of your car ?, cause i wanted to try using it in mine, cause my car is a 90 honda crx and it might make a big difference, cause only thing i've done is steam-cleaned my carpets and seats and everything with a rug doctor not long ago, plus fixed some water leaks i had for a while, so would'nt have any wet/ mildew smells anymore, plus i'm a smoker and anything to help would at least make it a little better,

so i was going to try plugging in the air purifier machine inside my apartment and running a couple long extension cords so it reaches out my door and into my car interior, and have the cord run through a cracked window, but keep the rest of the car closed up and sealed, and just run the machine for 2-3 hours, and see if it freshened it up or not?

heres a link to the one i have and was going to try using in the car :

just wanted to see if anyone has done this type of thing before and if it should work just as good in a small compact car as it did in a room inside my apartment ?

I use an air purifier in my house because i am also a smoker. Its one of the ones that magnetically charges the dust particles though and doesn't use a "filter" so to speak. Ive noticed a major difference. A simple test is to blow smoke into it does anything come out the other side?

I would say it would make a massive difference to have one in your vehicle all the time. Running it over night and taking it out on the other hand i dont think it would... There not a very high volume of air in a car like in a house. So i dont think the effect would last. The "pure" air would escape as soon as you opened a door or window. So your best bet would be to install one somewhere permanently in your vehicle. To filter smoke and stuff as it happens.

Only down side is they require alot of power. So this could prove difficult.

yeah i guess its too much of a hassle to have to plug the air purifier into 3 long extension cords and have it going down my stairs out the door and into the car, just to run it for a few hours or overnight,

but yeah, i should just use it for in my house (well, apt), but its missing the Hepa-Filter, and from what i saw on a search, looks like they cost like $35-$40 new !!!, but without that, the machine won't do what its supposed to do.

so when you said you have some type for your house that "magnetically charges the air", do you mean one of those thats called an "Air Ionizer" ?,

and how often do you run the thing ? just every now and then for a few hours ? or just leave it constantly running ?, i'm not sure how youre supposed to use the air purifier machine i have, if you just run it for a few hours or several hours or just all day (for a smoker)?

my friend told me he knows this guy with a jeep and he is a smoker and he has some air purifier in his car that works really well, but its like $300 !!!, so i searched around internet seeing what cheaper ones there were around, and i saw a few that were smaller ones for cars that plug in the lighter socket, and are air ionizers/ purifiers etc . . ., and people had good reviews about them and were only around $15 -$30 range.

but then i guess i read too much about them, from browsing stuff on google, cause i saw a couple articles from science magazines or health websites that were saying that theres something in those "air ionizers" that is bad for you, it has something called "ozone" that is bad for the respiratory system and has other effects over time, and that they mislead people and don't mention anything about that cause all they care about is selling their product.

so the bottom line is, screw it, i'll just skip on getting some special air purifier / ionizer thing for my car, and just stick to regular car air fresheners that are'nt "electronic", and even know i'm a smoker, the good thing is that usually the person who owns the car who is the smoker is so used to how it smells that they don't really smell a smokey car or a bad smell, so it does'nt bother me, i barely notice since i'm too used to it, but when i have passengers then they really notice since they might not be a smoker and also that they are smelling it with a fresh nose, since they have'nt been driving it for 14 years and too used to it.

sorry for typing so much, sometimes i go on a roll if i just drank a cup of coffee.

Its good no apology necessary, The one i use is indeed an air ionizer. I run it it the daytime when i am up, smoking, cleaning, just cleaned the liter box, ex. As far as them being bad for you i am sure in a small enough room (like a car with windows up) or if it was running 24/7 it could have some negative effect but i personally haven't experienced it ... and while making O-zone is bad for people, it is indeed good for the environment...

As far as cost i paid 3$ for mine at a yard-sale. All the pieces are there and it works great... i am not sure if they even knew what it was <.< being as they usually sell for at least 100$. I personally enjoy it because i dont have to dust twice a week when i smoke in the house anymore. Plus if i blow my smoke into it its simply gone (No cloud, no smell). Which is another reason i enjoyed your idea. I wipe out my cars interior once a week just to try and keep the dust down from me smoking. Not to mention the film on the windows... Filtering the dust and smoke as it happens seems like the ultimate solution.

P.S. COFFEEEEE!!!!

i guess i should'nt worry about "ozone" cause i heard its bad for people, cause i mean i smoke and do other things that are'nt good for me, so probably does'nt matter, i can't be worrying about every little thing i breathe, i mean we drive around on roads filled with carbon monoxide from all the exhausts from the cars surrounding us while we have our windows down, lol

i have a smokeless ashtray, which sucks the smoke down into it and disappears, but i tend to not use it that much cause it runs off batteries, and don't want to leave it running and usually its easy to forget its on and leave it til the batteries die, plus to get the most use out of those things you seem to have to always hold the cigarette in the ashtray so it sucks the smoke into it, but if you have it up in your hand then the smoke will be going everywhere like usual,

it would be neat if there was some invention where it was some type of cigarette holder thing, that had its own smokeless ashtray sort of thing, that sucks the smoke into it instead of it going out all around the air, like some little vacuum thing with a filter right in front of the front of the cigarette and clips to the filter on the back but goes around the whole cigarette? or maybe thats a stupid idea

yeah it does suck how you have to keep up with wiping off that film from smoking on the inside of your car windows, sometimes you really have to rub it good to get it off, and on mine it can be dangerous in cold and rainy type weather cause the film can fog it up real fast and you can't see anything !,

i was at a glass shop recently having a window replaced cause it was shot out from some kids at night with a BB-gun, and they were using this foam spray glass cleaner, and when i went to pay, i asked about it, and they said if i want they will sell me a can, so i bought a can of it, so when i clean the inside of my windows, i use that spray foam glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth, its way better than my old method i used, which was newspaper and rubbing alcohol.

Personally i use this 100% Biodegradable ammonia free vegetable based window cleaner, and a microfiber cloth but im a total hippie so yeah <.< lol. Secondly yeah that film does suck even if its just cool in the evenings i have to let the car completely warm up before i can see ****. Unless i just cleaned the windows the day before. Which is not only inconvenient but dangerous as hell if your in a hurry...

If you end up inventing one of those devices your talking about, sign me up ile take 5 lol. It would keep ashes from flying all over the place as soon as you crack the window as-well. Around my stick shift in my Sol looks like a volcano went off every time a smoke a cig... Then again the ashtray is right beside it.

The simple solution... E-Cig, Vape pen whatever you wanna call it.

i actually got an E-Cig recently, i did'nt mean to, i was just buying a pack of camel 99's filters at an Exxon, and this guy came over and started talking to me and said he worked for camel, and said they have a special promotion to get their e-cigarette called "VUSE", which he said taste similar to the camels i get, and i thought it was some sales gimmick for sure, but he said all it would be is $5, and it comes with a usb and you recharge it up, and what i like is that it looks simple, just an aluminum cylinder with black where the filter would be, and not all obnoxious like some i've seen out there that look like a big fountain pen with a dial and ****, so i told him yeah, and went ahead and bought it, and after trying it, it was better than i thought, and i like that its something for me to have every once and a while to just break it up a little from only smoking cigarettes, plus save from buying as many packs of cigs, plus its something you can have if you want to smoke in public places that don't allow cigarettes, but do allow e-cigs, but takes a little for me to get used to, its like if i take too light of a drag off it, then nothing comes out of my mouth, but then if i take a little more of a dragl, then its too much and then makes me cough, so they seem really sensitive to how you drag off of them.

one thing i use pretty often is this air freshener you've probably seen called OZIUM, which supposed to neutralize the air or something, i get the new car smell one, and what i do is i turn the air on high with the through vent on, and i spray from the cowl into the vents, and also spray into the air vents on the inside, then i put it on recycle mode and run it for a while to let it set in on the inside, and works good doing it that way.

a while ago i bought one of those japanese air fresheners called CX-8 or something?, cant remember exact name?, but it was a cartridge type air freshener you stick on top of your dash and the one i got was called "squash", but did'nt smell like squash, it smelled more like bubble gum, and it smelled good but does'nt last as long in 100 degree summers in texas, and plus they are pretty expensive also for the replacement cartridges, so i never got another refill for it.

Yeah E-Cigs are nice for certain occasions, like when you dont want to dirty up your interior. I am glad you found one you like.

I haven't seen the air freshener you are referring to but i will definitely look into it. Although i am not a big fan of air fresheners themselves. I like a "clean" looking interior. Anything like air fresheners and things of that sort just clutter it up in my mind, so i tend to avoid them. Advanced auto gives me these free vent wraps when i buy stuff from them. They are just pieces of black material with a clip underneath that wrap around one of the pieces of a vent. You cant even tell they are there and give a nice "new car" smell. They dont last long but they keep giving me free ones so i use them.

really thats the kind of air freshener i like the best, the type that clips to the air vent, so the air blows through it, and spreads the scent around better, opposed to the other type that just sits there and have no way for the scent to get out of it and get spread around?

the best air freshener i ever had was 10 yrs ago, it was a japanese air freshener, by a brand called Pecolo, and was called "aeroflash", it was egg-shaped, that clipped to the air vent, and had a white thing that looked like an alkaseltzer tablet inside which had the scent on it, and what was cool was it had little blue and green lights on it and whenever you really stepped on the gas and got going or went around a corner fast, it sensed it and the lights got triggered and started flashing back and forth, plus i really liked the scent it had a lot, it was like a fresh, cool, cologne sort of smell, but can't really explain it, but since then i have tried looking for it again and have'nt had any luck
