Re: Honda S 600 Fastback Coupe 1965 Restoration
Yes, that was what I was referring to with 'finish' question. The aluminum used in the Honda castings dulls fast in humid conditions, and even pits a little with moisture. A 356-style high speed polish might work, but that looks like chrome, which would be out of place on these bits. Some use a clear coat, but that too eventually yellows and flakes off. The light oiling sounds the easiest and best!
On colors, the chart above is from one model year - the same as yours? - and the color range changed over a few years. I will see if I can find what I thought was a more comprehensive list of the JDM colors. Neko

iv'e painted ally parts wheel silver with a light coat of lacqer before. it's quite hard wearing and easy to clean. stops surface corrosion.
the inlet manifold is painted with this method. was going white and powdery before
(B210 with Mazda MX5 VVT engine I sold a while ago)

Re: Honda S 600 Fastback Coupe 1965 Restoration
I'm considering a "hotcoat" clear powder coating for any parts prone to corrosion. There are many color options, including a clear coat, for suspension and under hood pieces.
Kuroneko, thanks for posting the paint chart. My S800 was originally white (I assume Ivory White in '67) which at least appears more "sand or taupe" to me.
Was there another white available in 1967 for the coupe?

Thanks Neko. That blows wet sand metallic out of the water, looks like a bronze! Looks like the only option out side of my scarlet, could be silver sky metallic or silver metallic. Will visit a paint shop and see if they can show me the colours as a sample. Thanks again for the info, much appreciated.

No idea sorry! I've seen many repaints though...
I would not take the color samples here as accurate. They were likely only printed approximations at the time, and this was scanned many years after publishing. Neko

Yes, unfortunately. While it was on and off, it seems to have settled into the same routine of blowing smoke. That, and the transmission now is stuck in reverse, means its made a trip back to the shop. We shall see what options develop...

Sorry to hear that Neko, driving around constantly in reverse could prove annoying after a while also...hopefully a quick fix, and she's back on the road. Cheers, Paul.

A little more done...new chain guide rollers made up, cheers John for spec's. Crack free axle carriers cleaned up and installed. Tail shaft done, started on doors, hatch. Body work will be slow as my panel beater mate is directing me on step by step. Learning fast and enjoying it also. Stripping today and metal filing for high/low spots. Will be doing this most Saturdays...till I'm 100!
Cheers, Paul.

Wow, so much nice metal! The roller has changed from a sprocket to a channel? Or was that nasty looking black thing a channel too, and its just chewed to death? Neko

Your prop shaft is different to mine. Mine has donuts on each end. Some old ones have a donut one end and a Uni joint the other. Not seen one like yours. OEM?

Neko, there is good metal on doors and hatch...was very happy to find no rust, just a couple of repair patches which were done well, so far so good. No surprises so far, but early days and a long way to go! Wheels not sure on, they were so badly disfigured it was hard to tell.
John, I have seen much earlier models than mine with the double flex joints...so that puts mine as a very early model tail shaft. I noticed in the parts manual that the dust cover on mine stopped at model 1000141. Has the uni joint the other end.
Cheers, Paul.

Maybe an early gearbox from a roadster has been fitted with an old prop shaft. Check the mission serial number.

Steering rack reconditioned, all parts were in very good condition. New grease, bearing and oil seal fitted. The joint bolt connecting to the inner tie rod had to be ground, to separate the two. Once the internal components were cleaned up and greased, the items were then spot welded back together. Mental note, replace paper towel rolls before wife yells...again!
Cheers, Paul.

Thanks...Has been a little while since last post. I have been working on the car most Saturdays, for a while now. The car has been paint stripped at home, repairs etc done at my mates panel shop. Fortunately little Lily...so she has been named by wife and child, fits easily into the back of my trailer. The ritual is I load Lily at sunrise Saturday morning and return well into the night....enjoy it though! I have managed to find a great S800 bonnet to use, just love the shape of that buldge!

Various items sent away to be gold cadmium plated, decided not to play with shocks as they are buggered. Replacing with new adjustable items from Ortmanns. Ortmann package arrives with various bits and pieces...including chain case and diff seals, upper and lower ball joints, upper and lower diff supporting rubbers NOS, front and rear adjustable coilover suspension, front end rubbers, brake piston seals etc etc.
