82 honda civic with EK1
I just bought a 1982 honda civic 1300. I am trying to find out if this car came from the factory with a ek1 motor .the guy I bought it from said it was the stock motor but he was the third owner. i think somewhere down the line it was changed. the numbers on the motor are EK1 5530054. the best I can tell is thats a 1.8 and the civic didn't have that engine as an option in 82. I really need to know more about this motor like what to set the valve lash, spark plug gap and I would like to change the timing belt.
any help would be great.
Thanks, James

The motor is not stock. Its out of a Prelude or Accord.
timing belt adjustment/pivot belts - torque to 31 ft lb.
cam gear - 22 ft lb.
crank gear - 83 ft lb.
valves:
intake and aux:
.12-.17 mm clearance
exhaust:
.25 - .30 mm
All this from a Factory Honda Service manual.

Re: 82 honda civic with EK1
Thank you for the info. I did order a manual for this car but it didn't cover this engine. I guess I will have to order 1 for the accord

This would be the first gen Accord/Prelude. 1976-1978 had a 1.7L EM-1 engine. More specifically on the Accord it would only be the Accord engine from 1979 to 1983. If you want/need a specific year of Accord/Prelude:
1979 - 1000001 and up
1980 - 2000001 and up
1981 - 3000001 and up
1982 - 4000001 and up
1983 - 5000001 and up
If it qualifies for the 1983 year, it would only be an Accord engine. I have the EK-1 from a 79 model Accord in mine.
Depending on the engine that came in the car from the factory, it may have had a 4 speed in it. The 1300s came with a 4 speed tranny OR a 5 speed. The 1500s only came with 5 speeds. Both came with automatics. This is all if your car is an HB.
Check your chassis code.
SL-431 is a 1300 4 speed.
SL-532 is a 1300 5 speed.
SR-332 is a 1500 automatic.
SR-532 is a 1500 5 speed
SR-533 is a 1500 5 speed and the model would be GL
Hope that helps the break down a little more in depth for you.

Re: 82 honda civic with EK1
Thanks guys.
I now know that I have an 82 civic HB with a 83 accord engine. my guess would be that it has the accord 5 speed sence the vin # says it came with the 4 speed.
