Default wiring horn button (not on steering wheel)

My 98 accord coupe steering wheel horn doesn't work any more, I have to push down really hard to get it to honk. And sometimes it doesn't even work. I've open the steering wheel already and I only see two wires to the horn device.

So I'm wondering what I would need to do to wire up a button that I can push to honk the horn. I'm planning to put the button somewhere near the steering column.

The horn is triggered by ground so all you need to do is find the trigger wire and put a normally open push button switch inline with it to ground.

On the 98 accord the green/blue horn wire can be found to the left of steering column on the gray connector. I'm sure it would be easier to tap the wire in the column but I am not 100% sure its the same color.

Ditto the above^^^

However, why not just fix the problem, a trip the the bone yard should get you a new horn "button" for next to nothing, probably get a whole steering wheel for $10. 94

Plus, I don't know about CA, but I'm sure it can't be too much different than here in NY, where if the horn doesn't work via the factory button(s) on the steering wheel, it won't pass the safety inspection.

In MD you have to have a horn button but it does not have to be the factory one.

Thanks for the replies. The junkyards here in california are overpriced. As far as inspection, i havent heard of any on doing that. Maybe its different in other states.

Have you tried cleaning the contacts with contact cleaner and then re-applying di-electric grease?

The problem is that I dont have the steering wheel air bag. The horn button( plate) rests on top of the air bag. Basically the air bag plate needs smething to push against it.

The plate is a piece of plastic with a red and black wire attached to it. I'll post pics when I get home.
