Default Will this amp hook up to this sub correctly?

Okay, Last night I freaked out because a guy at tweeter said my amp wont run my sub because it will have to run 1 ohm and that would fry it, or I could run it at 8 ohms which is **** power. I also may have told him it was a dual voice coil 2 ohm instead of 4 ohm, I really don't remember, just because I was pretty upset, because he asked, because I forgot the book.

HELP ME OUT!!

I have a 12" Audiobahn AW1206T, which is a DVC 4 ohm sub. I think he thought it was a dual two ohm sub, but I'm not entirely sure.
My amp is a Power Acoustik TS1920, which pushes 440 watts x 2 @ 2 ohms, or 270 watts x 2 @ 4 ohms.
Is he right or How can I wire it up to push this 1100 watt rms sub?

Reading in my audiobahn book it shows a 2 ohm amp being bridged, running parallel into a dual voice coil 4 ohm sub?? Is that running 1 ohm to each channel??? If so that would fry my amp. I don't understand IMPEDANCE !! lol. Thanks for everything guys, Save my life PLEASE from attempting to sell this, and run a monoblock like he said. I really hope he's wrong.

If the VCs of a 4 0hm DVC sub are wired in parallel it is a 2 ohm load.

Your amp is 370W x 2 into 4ohms, 440W x 2 into 2ohms and 880W mono, the specs do not say at what impedance that is at ans only mentions that the amp is 2ohm stable in stereo http://www.poweracoustik.com/PLASMA.html that normally means that it is not stable below 4ohms when bridged into mono.

Your sub is rated at 1100W RMS, the only way you can wire the sub to the amp would be to leave it in stereo and wire one ch, to each VC on the sub, that would give you 370W to each VC for a total of 740W and although well below the subs 1100W RMS handling, it would work, however I do not recommend doing this unless you can "mix" the input signal, so both ch. of the amp "see" the same thing.

I would recommend that you get a mono block sub amp, like a Power Acoustik A1800B 1100W into 2ohms http://www.poweracoustik.com/classD.html 94

Alright how would I mix the "input" signal? Its a two channel amp with no different specs for either channel, its just running two channels out with no difference between each channel. If I ran it at stereo wouldn't that just be equal power to each voice coil, I dont know how I would change it. Is that a 2 ohm load? I heard this audiobahn sub is a little overrated. I dont want to blow it either. Thanks for the answer though.

IF the amp does not have a "mix" switch, or your HU does not have a mono sub output, then it will be hard to do, left and right output from the HU is dynamic and not the same on both ch. all the time.

No sorry that was a mistake on the last post each ch. will see a 4ohm load 370W to each VC. for a total of 740W, again it will work, but you will have to be careful you don't constantly drive the amp into clipping, that will hurt the sub. 94

There's no mix switch. My headunit has a subwoofer output on it, thats how my sub is hooked up and it has a seperate thing to control the subwoofer as well. I guess I'm confused I don't know much about car audio.. well not nearly as much as I thought I knew.

The sub runs 50 watts rms to 1100 watts rms. So even 640 wouldnt be too bad i suppose. I just dont want this **** to detonate or ruin anything.

Id actually like to sell it and get a hifonics monochannel class-d amp. But I know Im not going to get anything for it.

Im getting circuit city to install everything as well. A friend installed my last system and hooked to a bad ground and fried the ground right out of my amp. That might have been problems with impedance as well.
