Default Switch to turn off/on alarm siren?

Alarm: Compustar alarm. 2 way pager. about 3000ft signal
Car: 95 Integra

I was wondering if i can just buy any ordinary switch and connect it inline with the siren?

Reason why I want to do that, is because i park my car outside on the street in front of my house and cars/trucks/motorcyles always set off my car alarm. I know it bothers my neighbors but theyre very understanding.

So, I want to create a switch that will disable the siren, but i will still get paged, that way it will be peaceful in my neighborhood. People might be wondering why car is flashing though. I will however turn on siren when I go out somewhere.

Thanks

Yes you can, but why not just turn down the shock sensor's sensitivity? Or eliminate the shock sensor altogether in favor of a more effective sensor, ie glass break.

This is the plan I have in action....

I have to agree with the above^^^.

Fix the problem, if the impact sensor is what is triggering the alarm it is not adjusted properly and or not installed properly.

The Compustar impact sensor is a very dependable unit when installed and adjusted properly, when done correctly you should be able to kick the tires very hard without triggering even the warn a way, but cracking a lug nut would trigger the alarm, and soft impacts will only trigger warn a way and harder impacts will trigger full alarming mode.

Hint... when adjusting the impact sensor, once you get it close, very small increments are needed for fine tuning, EG; if the setting is at 4 when close, 4.75 will be too much and 3.25 will be too little, the "sweet spot"will be someplace between 3.25 and 4.75.

Hint #2.. do not use the LED on the sensor to adjust, set it, arm the alarm, wait the 15sec. for it to "set" then start with soft impact and get a little harder each time, if it is not correct, disarm, make a very small adjustment, rearm and try again, this will take longer as you have to wait the 15sec. for the impact to "set" and you will have to wait to the second set of siren tones until you can disarm, [turn siren off] then disarm, however it is a much more accurate way of setting the impact sensor. 94

PS, yes you could install a switch, but it's not a very effective alarm if it is always going off.

On my compustar two-way, I have an option on my remote to turn off the shock sensor completely by holding buttons 1 and 2 I belive (look on the back of the remote). I have the 2WSS-AS2 alarm. Thats probably the easiest solution if you indeed have that option.

Other alarms offer that same feature, DEI is one for example.

yea my alarm wasnt installed properly. Had my friend's friend who was suppose to be knowledeagle in installing alarms. Took him about 8 hours. when i put the setting too low and hit my car, the alarm doesnt go off. it works a lot better when the sensitivity is high.

I should have gone through an authorized dealer.

thanks for the replies

Sounds like you are either adjusting it backwards or the sensor is mounted in a bad place. Both should be easy for you to fix yourself. Where is the sensor mounted?
