Stun gun my alarm system?
One of my buddy's I work with mentioned to me the other day.
"The easiest way to get past an alarm is to stun gun it and deactivate it"
He wasn't so sure about it and said someone told him about it.
Does this hold true at all?

Yeah that's what I thought. I thought he was full of it.
So you're 100% sure it has no way of working?
It makes sense, you know, with all those fuses and relays in the way.
If anything it sounds like it might make ti harder to start the car.

Re: Stun gun my alarm system? (ek forever guy)
I don't see it working on 95% of any of my installs because I have customers install back up batteries on there car alarm. I Just don't see how it would hurt the alarm. But I could see it could fry a ecu thou

If you were able to shock the car hard enough to disable the alarm, the same shock would destroy the ECU along with most of the wiring and other electronic components and sensors. The theory itself just doesn't make sense. It's been proven false I just don't remember by whom. Email Myth Busters as a suggestion for an episode.

Good idea. That and the sticking a screwdriver into my headlight to start the car.
Some idiot at work said he could do that, stick a screwdriver in my headlight and my car would start, claimed he'd seen it done dozens of times

You sure it wasn't his butt?
I don't know who's dumber him for saying it or you for asking if its possible.
Seriously think about it using any high voltage on a car has to have a path for current to flow. how do you get current to flow on a single wire with no return path?
Answer-> you dont
Think of it this way everyone knows you stick your tongue on a 9 volt terminal and you get shocked right?
Ok now just stick your tongue on one of the terminals. Will you get shocked? nope.
Current must start and end in the same place always.
Current flows from one terminal through your tongue to the other terminal. Then through the battery and back to the starting terminal.

In high school, I had heard of a similar trick with with jumper cables. I thought it was BS, but when I was an installer, I ran into two cases where people had accidentally shut their hoods with jumper cables still attached to the battery. However, in those cases, the alarm wasn't actually disabled. Its just wouldn't stop going off.

The battery was shorted the alarm probably had a backup sirent that went off.
Shorting a battery is much different then arcing across a random piece of metal.

that doesnt sound any different then body shops welding on cars everyday with the battery still hooked up. they never have problems.
