Running a toggle switch to Amp?

Running a toggle switch to Amp?
I have a sounds system with a 15 inch square sub, and an amp. I want to run a toggle switch for when people are in my car. I have a two prong toggle switch, what I am asking is I know that one wire goes to the blue data wire in the amp, can I run it right to the amp and have those wires connect in the amps connection for the data wire or do I need to connect them all at the back of the head unit. Also, what is the second prong on the toggle for? Thanks

Your post is a little unclear near the end. Just put the toggle on the remote signal wire for the amp. Its a low current circuit and an easy way to achieve your goal. A simple 2 post toggle switch is all thats needed.

When you cut the remote wire, the radio side goes to one side of the switch. The amp side goes to the other prong. You are placing the switch in the middle of the wire with the switch separating the two ends. You place the switch wherever it is easy for you to access and run your remote wire to it and connect.

just gotta ask. what difference does it make if someone is in the car with you or not to have a toggle switch on the amp? Which kind of head unit do you have? Does the amp have a level (bass ****)?
The reason I ask is because there may be a way to turn down the sub without running the toggle switch which means less work and a cleaner install.

I have put a toggle switch on every car I had. Its great to have when a cop pulls up out the blue or when you just want to hear the factory system.Instead going through all those menu's on your radio just to turn off the sub

Really? Easier than just turning down the volume? And why would you WANT to hear the factory system anymore after you upgrade it with a sub and other components? That just doesn't make any sense.

Just sometimes I just hit the switch now & when I don't want to hear the sub's
Or I got my Little one in the back seat.
But that's just me

yeah i feel like your head unit has these settings for a reason, not a real big need for a switch.
if cops are the problem, just mute it!

And maybe I'm having a time understanding how if you're blasting a system that flicking a switch to turn off the amp stops the rest of the car speakers from blasting.
Maybe I'm trying to figure out how turning down the volume isn't just as fast as flicking a switch.
Maybe it's just me.
