Remote Start W/ Compustar?
Well i was talking to the guy that is going to install the Compustar on my car today. Turns out he would give me the alarm and install for 600 W/O the remote start, and it's 700 with it. He said he can always do it later if i want it, but it would probly cost me more because he needs to rewire, or something to that extent.
So, you guys think it's worth it to get Remote Start on an MT in SoCal?

Do you have AC in your car, or are you someplace in SoCal that gets really cold in the winter? Do you have a turbo in your car. If the answer is no to the above, then I would say no it's not worth it, just get the Compustar alarm.
If you already have the alarm/remote start, then I would say install it, what the hay eh.
If the installer runs all the wires he needs to do the remote start part of the Compustar when he does the alarm, [8 more wires at the most] then it should not be a big deal to add remote start later. 94

Re: Remote Start W/ Compustar? (Spoon)
It's actually hard to do remote start properly.
I have it on my DEI but it's a hack. The a/c and fan don't come on when in remote start or stop mode so it's pretty much useless.
The hard way is to install a relay on your starter so that the alarm will engage after the car is shut off. I don't think it costs $100 to do but may very well be true.

Re: Remote Start W/ Compustar? (Boofster)
thats because your installer didnt grab all the ignition/accessory wires. Ive always had remote start in my civics and everything works like a charm..probably because i installed my **** correctly. Im currently running the compustar 2w900FM w/remote start in my 93 EG

There are only a few more wires to hook up for the remote start to work......
1- Starter output from R/S unit, [relay built in]
2- Tach. sense
3- Brake sense
4- Ground out when running, [if it's a manual trans.]
5- E-brake, [if it's a manual trans.]
Anything else is in programing, and everything else has to be hooked up for the alarm. 94

Is it just me, or is this guy about to get ripped off?...
You can buy a brand new DEI 790VX on ebay for less than 200 bucks. (Or here...) http://soundmart.zoovy.com/product/DEI-791XV
That is a full alarm with 2-stage shock sensor and almost every single available bell and whistle included (even remote start). If it isn't included you can add it. It WILL turn on your fan (when installed properly) and will even turn on your RADIO (which is on a secondary ignition wire) without any additional relays. It's not that hard for an experienced installer to put in and shouldn't charge more than 250-300 with remote start for labor if you don't have any factory security features.
Buy the Viper, or whatever, then hold out for someone that you trust and who knows what they are doing. Not just trying to make some unearned money.
BTW I have worked with and installed both DEI (viper) and Compustar and CompuStar is kind of a piece (no offense to anyone with a FUNTIONAL CompuStar). But there is only ONE other brand that I detest more and refuse to install and that is Nitro BMW 2-way Alarms

Re: Remote Start W/ Compustar? (AlpineInstaller)
Unfortunately. DEI does not make an alarm/remote start for a standard yet, and no I don't mean you can't install a DEI into a standard, [you just don't have the failsafe] we charge $250 Can. for a basic alarm/remote start into a standard. and unlike you, I will install anything if I get paid, any alarm, alarm/starter, starter, or any stereo equipment 94
