Icon2 Remote Programming / Re-Pairing problem

I have a Clifford Responder LE 3.3x.

All worked fine until I had a bad ground problem, which I suspect was the root cause of my initial problems. I've now fixed the ground issue but I'm not out of the woods yet. This post and this post describe the issues I was having and continue to have - basically intermittent 2-way response for arming and disarming. Sometimes I could arm/disarm and the remote would not get a response from the brain (remote would flash), sometimes nothing at all would happen (and remote would flash), sometimes it would work normally. I can sit inside the car and it might work for a run of 10 arm/disarms then it would stop working.

I thought fixing the ground would fix the problem but it persists.

I tried disconnecting my car battery (10 mins) - no change.

Remote batteries are fresh.

Now I want to re-pair the remote but it doesn't want to. There is no response from the remote when I do step 4 indicated in the instructions below (from a post on the 12-volt site):

first, put the remote into programming mode (see install manual), then:
1) turn the ignition on
2) press and release the valet switch once
3) press and hold the valet switch, after a few seconds the siren should chirp once
4) press the lock button on the 5901 remote, siren should chirp
5) release the valet switch
6) turn ignition off, siren should chirp a few times indicating you exited programming mode
The remote is most definitely in programming mode (ie., hold function 10secs, then remote start button ~2secs). There is absolutely no response from the remote when I hit the 'lock' button (as I'm holding the valet button down).

Any ideas?

You're doing two different setup options at the wrong time lol

Page 56 of the INSTALL manual is for learning the button configuration AFTER the remote has been programmed to the unit. Basically telling the unit what you want the buttons on the remote to do. Nothing to do with connectivity of the remote to the unit.

Page 11 below from the OWNERS manual is the procedure you want to follow to reprogram your remote to the unit.

Essentially what you have been doing is putting the unit itself into a programming mode, then putting the remote in programming mode, and nothing is getting programmed lol

Side not on these remotes. There was an issue with some of them as reported in that NASIOC link. It has to do with a VERY small crack in solder on a circuit board in the remote causing an issues from the two way not working, to the remote just flat out not responding to any inputs. Only the two way though.

This is a video of the procedure I want to do:
. It is basically pg 56 from the install manual. This pairs the remote to the alarm brain, does it not? That's what I want to do, and that's what the title of the video says it does. But the step where he presses the "lock" button in the vid (towards the end) doesn't do anything in my case.

I'm beginning to think the 2-way remote is fucked. It's a p.o.s. to begin with; bad design. Might finally be toast. 1-way appears to be consistent, I'll give it a couple days of use to see if it works normally.

The title of the video is off. What they are doing is configuring the remote within the system. If you were to take a brand new remote out of the box, it would not even acknowledge the button presses in the video. Out of the box remotes come preprogrammed to the unit. What you're needing to do is delete the remote and then pair it to the brain.

You're most likely right, the remote was a horrible design, if you bought from an authorized dealer, DEI may send you a replacement.

The video shows remote programming, which is different than remote pairing.
