Default Question on an amp

So I have a question. I have two amps: One good one, one decent one.

I would like to run one amp to my four speakers, and one amp to a sub. Which amp should power which?

Depends on meaning of 'decent' mostly. Are both amps simple 2-channel amplifiers, and is one more powerful than the other? The interior speakers need much less power than a subwoofer will, and you should reserve the higher-powered one for it.
Also, if the 'decent' one is still high-power, consider turning it down a little to avoid destroying interior speakers, unless you have some that can take the abuse.

Anyway, what are the ratings on the amplifiers? (RMS values preferred, or make/model of amps, etc. Any numbers you can find.)

Man. That's like saying I got 2 engines which one should I put in my car. You've got to at least tell us what your working with. Model numbers of amps, subs, and the four speakers. What are your expectations of the system?

I'm sorry guys I don't know much if anything about sound systems... just going of reviews i've read online about the amps... they are old

Ideally I'd like to power one kenwood 15" sub with one amp, and my other 4 speakers w/ the other... here are the amps:

- Hifonics Zeus Z440 (110x4) 440watts??
- Xplod MTX2006GTR (1200watts?)

this is all foreign to me...thanks for any help.

Hifonics Z440 is a 4 channel amp. You have 4 separate speakers. It will be 55watts RMS x 4. If your speakers are less than 55watts RMS then it's seems fine to me.

Sony Xplod GTR is a 2 channel amp. I believe it is 500watts RMS x 1 @ 4 ohms; so bridge it and connect it to your Kenwood 15" subwoofer. Since I could not find the exact amp by that model number and I don't know the model Kenwood sub you have I cannot tell you the best way to hook it up.

Speaker model numbers? Check sony amp model number? What head unit? Do you know what to use to wire this up and how to go about it?

thanks so much you guys have been so helpful!!

The headunit is a clarion DXZ765MP
Not sure what kind of speakers I have, could you recommend a decent set? All I care about is good sound quality and minimal distortion....

I'll get you the speaker and subwoofer model numbers later when i get back from work.

As for the install, I've been watching some how-to's. I have all the different gauge wiring for the install already (took them off of my previous car's stereo installation)

Thanks!

I assume you mean the Hifonics ZX4400... http://ampguts.realmofexcursio...X4400/ as I can't find a Z440.

I also do not recognize the Sony model number and it does not come up on their site, the closest I can find is an XM2002GTR... http://esupport.sony.com/US/pe..._id=1

Recheck the model numbers. 94

I like the looks of that head unit and it will work good.

Well now I need to know what make and model car to know which speakers fit. But If they are 6.5" then these would be nice http://www.onlinecarstereo.com...20345 . There are a lot of good speakers.

Man you guys are good, I haven't had my questions answered this thoroughly in a very long time!!

Car is a 1993 Mazda Rx7, those Boston acoustics look great and at a really good price too. Rear speakers don't matter as much huh?

5 1/4 will fit upfront(see below) and 6 x 8 in the back seat panel.

Installation Details for your 1993 RX7 from crutchfield.com
» Use the factory speaker grilles.
» A speaker adapter bracket is required, and it's included free with your speaker purchase.
» A wiring harness is not available. Cut off the factory connectors and splice the vehicle's speaker wires to your new speaker wires.
» Component speaker systems consist of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers. You'll install the woofers in your factory speaker openings, so we check those for fit in your car. You'll have to custom-mount the tweeters and crossovers, which usually requires drilling and running new wires.

These are good and include the adapter for the door when you identify your car at crutchfield.com http://www.crutchfield.com/App...p=105 . These would be direct replacement for the back panels http://www.crutchfield.com/App...p=105 .

Ok guys i need you again. In the middle of an amp install. The RCA connections on my amp have the following symbols.
L 1 3

R 2 4

The back of my head unit has connections for the front and rear speakers to be connected to the amp via RCA cables. I know where the front and rear speakers rca cables plug in the back of my head unit, but what about in the back of my amp??? Do i just plug all four of the front/rear rca cables in to channels 1-4?? Any help appreciated...thanks!

Plug your front RCA outputs into L 1, and R 2, [channels 1 and 2] and plug your rear RCA outputs to L 3 and R 4, [channels 3 and 4], make sure the outputs from the amps channels 1 and 2 go to the front speakers and channels 3 and 4 go to the rears, if your doing mono rear fill channels 3 and 4 will need to be bridged. 94
