If you want to buy new, I wouldn't suggest anything in that price range for BOTH a sub and amp. If you shop used, you can find plenty of deals out there, just stick to the names you recognize and make sure you can see/hear it before you buy. There will be no shortage of new product available in your $150 price range, and there will be plenty of people who will say "I scooped a 5000 jiggawatt amp and sub on the low and people be hearin me knockin for blocks yo", they just don't know any better lol.
If it were my hard earned money, I would shake out the couch cushions and save up for something like this. Can you find amp and sub combo for less? Yes and it will play and work fine, but you aren't getting the best bang(pun intended) for your buck

That's because they aren't carried by the big box stores like Best Buy, Frys, Hhgreg, etc. You can use 8 gauge for what you are going to be using now, but if you plan on upgrading down the line and going with more power, I would suggest going ahead and use 4 gauge now so that you don't have to upgrade your equipment AND wire.
