New aftermarket stereo won't power on

New aftermarket stereo won't power on
New Pioneer deck won't power on, I also have an older Kenwood that does the same thing. I have 12v at the stereo connector that plugs into the back of the deck. Ground is good, otherwise I wouldn't have 12v at the plug..
Any other ideas?

Re: New aftermarket stereo won't power on
What car?
1. Check radio fuse
2. Check fuse on the radio itself
3. Check wire connections between radio harness and car wiring
4. Use a meter($3 at harbor freight) to see if you have power on the red wire of the stereo with the key in the accessory (1st click) position, or if you are meterless you can TAP(do not hold) the yellow wire on the stereo to the red and see if it flickers on. If at that point you blow a fuse, then you have a short somewhere on the red wire.

I checked all fuses under hood and in car. Fuse on radio is good. Assuming all connections are good since I have power at the stereo connector.
I have the Harbor Freight $30 meter, I have 12v coming from the cars harness connector and the back side of the harness adapter and at the end connector that goes into the radio...

-Do you have 12v on the red wire coming off the stereo with the key in the accessory(1st click) or ignition(2nd click) positions?
If so double check that you have a good ground in the harness or run the radio directly to metal/chassis.
PS: Being that you have a 96-98 Civic.

PPS: If you have keyless entry and you want to retain it, you will need to use this radio harness because the keyless entry system runs through the radio.
