Default My mini review of Alpine CDA-7873

Well it's been 4 weeks and my car is FINALLY back in one peice after the break in. I ended up going with the 7873 for a HU. It is the EXACT same deck as the 7875, but with less flashy colors and no remote. Also 100 bucks cheaper.

Ok, first let me say this deck is very easy to use. It has a butload of features, but I had the whole deck figured it within an hour with minor use of the manual. The built in crossover works exceptionally well, takes literally 3 seconds to setup and I now have zero distortion of my high's all the way up to it's peak volume. The sound quality of this unit compared to my last pioneer deck is like night and day. My high's are now perfectly balanced to my bass thanks to all the little tweeks the unit has for sub settings. There is not one point during the whole volume range that the sub takes over the highs. Alpine's new 60W X 4 V-Drive amplifier on the HU is quite simply put f*cking amazing! I have never had such loud and clear mids and highs in my car ever!! It's even clearer and louder than when me and my buddy hooked up an external amp to some 6X9's for fun. And we were giving those speakers 300 Watt's per channel!! THIS SOUNDS BETTER!

All in all, I'm kinda happy those **** suckers stole my old HU, if they hadn't I never would have known what I was missing. This deck on it's own has changed my car stereo from ok sounding with a sub, to IMHO being able to compete in SQ comps. I might not win, but at least I could compete.

I love it.

Supposively, one of last years amps from the crappy Flex series was dropped because it actually put out LESS RMS power than the 60x4 MOSFET chipped amps. 22wrms vs 25wrms or something like that.

I'm glad you like it! That's the exact same CD player I plan on getting soon. May I ask how much you got if for and where?

yes you may.

Actually, my car was broken into about a month ago, the insurance company gave me 250 for my old deck, which is the only reason I could afford this one.

The deck total was 600.00 CAN. I paid 350, insurance paid 250.

I got it from the stereo shop who did the repairs on my car.

FYI 600CAN = 389.53US

I love this deck!

I was going to go with this head unit as well, but my local store was out of it, so I asked about the 7875 and they said they only had one in the installer wall that they had on a return, so I bought it for $300 out the door. I'm quite happy with mine as well, the only thing I don't like about it is the tuner's ability to keep a weaker channel in tune, I think that is called sensitivity. My stock head unit could keep every local channel in perfect tune. But this head unit rocks in my opinion.
I have it mated with Infinity Kappa 6.5 seperates in the front and Kappa 6.5's in the rear, to top it off I have an Infinity Basslink 10" sub in the trunk. This little Alpine powers these power hungry Kappa's pretty well. However I'm going to amplify them this weeked with a HiFonics Gemini. I would highly recommend this HU!

That's an awesome price for the 7875!! I wanted that one badly, but I couldn't come up with nor justify the extra 100 bucks for a remote and blue buttons.

That's a pretty good price! I actually plan on getting the 7875 instead. And yes, I'll pay extra to get blue buttons and a remote.

I figure I'll just kick myself in the *** later down the road if I got the 7873 because it doesn't have these features (remote is pretty important).

Off to eBay I go...
