Left front speaker cuts out sometimes

Left front speaker cuts out sometimes
Hi everyone. I recently got my new cd player professionally installed. A few days later i noticed my left front speaker would cut out while driving sometimes. At the time i had stock speakers. So i bought some new ones and put them in myself. Same thing- it will cut out sometimes. So I took the dash out and wiggled the back of the cd player harness and it would work for awhile. Lately though I've noticed it will cut out when i close the door. To make the speaker play again, I have to reopen the door and close it again. The right speaker works fine- never had a problem with it- just the left front. Anyone have an idea on what could be making the left speaker cut out? I figure it may be a wire grounding out by the door (but then again why would wiggling the harness make it work) but this all started after i got the cd player installed. I took it back to the audio place and they checked the connections at the base of the cd player. They said everything is fine. So im kind of confused what it may be.

Re: Left front speaker cuts out sometimes
Its most likely 1 of 2 things. Either a loose conection or a wire grounding. If it is a wire grounding out wiggling the harness or reshutting the door could change the position of the wire causing the part of the wire that is grounding out to lose contact with what it is grounding to. If it is a loose connection wiggling could cause it to move into a better position and then a bump or closing the door hard could make it lose contact and cut out. Try to trace the wire from the speaker back if you can. Look for any worn spots on the wire or connections that are loose.

Re: Left front speaker cuts out sometimes
I have also seen wires break inside of the door boot. not very common but have seen it happen. the only way to tell is to stick a meter on the radio side of the harness of the white and white/black wires (with the radio unplugged) and test the ohm load of the speaker. if it ever reads "open" then the wire is broken or comming undone somewhere. if all is good, check the white or white / black wire (one at a time) against resistance to ground. if it ever grounds out you have a short / wire grounding. hope that helps.

Thanks cstone. Yeah i took off the door panel and then the speaker holder out. I noticed the wires were touching a sharp piece of metal from where the speaker holder is. I taped the wires and hasn't been a problem since. Much appreciated guys.
