Default JL Audio 500/5

anybody running this amp? wondering if you are using 3 rca's or 2. my Clarion DXZ635MP has 3 or 4 outputs. should i use them all (sub-sub, rear-rear, front-front) or go with just sub and front (sub-sub, front-front/rear)?

what i'm going to run:

front: Infinity Kappa 60.7cs 6.5 components
rear: Infinity Kappa 62.7i 6.5 coaxial
sub: Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 4ohm single voice

thanks

If your radio has 3 preamp outputs ( Front Rear and sub) and yes that amp can use them...then why not use them? Makes the most sense to me.

I would use all three that way you retain your fade function.

after some research i found out that would be the best way to go. i wanted to be a cheap *** and not buy an extra set of rca's. thanks for all the replies everybody!

Understand that, but since you have already spent so much on that high quality equipment what is a few more bucks for some rca's

Once the system is set up, there should be no need for the fader, [unless you have a reason to cut the sound in the back or front] I see no need to run another set of RCAs, unless you have to have fade. 94

It would be a real nice amp if they gave the rear channel some actual power. 25 watts is just not my idea of useful power. I would prefer something like 125x2 up front, 75x2 in the back and 350 for a woofer.

they rate their amps at 12.5 volts so it will still give the rear enough IMO....JL amps

That said, I have installed a few of the 500/5 amps and they work very well, non of the customers that we installed the 500/5 for was disappointed with how loud it was, but where surprised not only how good the amp sounded but also at how loud it was.

Don't forget rear fill is just that, "fill" you should not even be able to tell that they are there. 94

hey fcm, you said you installed a few 500/5's? you also stated something about not needing a 3rd rca for front stage and rear fill-i got a couple of questions.

1-if i use ONE rca for front/rear stage would i use the rear input or front input? would it make a difference? correct me if i'm wrong but, i would be adjusting front and rear stage simultaenuously?

2-say i go with 2 rca's for front and rear. would it be more ideal since i would have adjustability on just the rears and just the fronts? i guess since it's more "dedicated"?

If you look on the amp, at the rear inputs you will see the F/R input mode switch, it only selects input you still have full control of both front and rear channels, except for fade, and the only reason to use 2 sets of RCAs for front and rear, is so you can have fade, and as I stated before once the system is set up you should not be using the fade, only use I can see for fade is, long trip, kids are asleep in the back but you still want to listen to some tunes, fade out rear speakers.

That said, except for cost, more cable to run, more connections, there is nothing wrong with running 2 sets of RCAs, it can't hurt, money better spent on a good quality lens cleaner 94

thanks fcm for clarifying alot . i can understand the configurations in the owners manual now . still got some questions though. my clarion DXZ635MP has a sub out and has a sub control function in deck. should i run an rca just for that? there is a remote bass accessory available. would it be better to run the remote bass? which would you recommend? thanks alot man!!!!

Yes, run RCAs from the sub out on the HU to the amp, but if you want more control add the "RBC-1" it is not a gain control, it is a boost control and if you read here http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/Switches_Knobs.pdf number 5 you will get an idea of what it will do for you, "handy dandy" 94

have you installed any RBC-1's? what's your opinion on them? they got'em in stock at my local shop for 40 bucks.

so rca wiring would be sub and rear/front out (HU). HU sub out would go to sub input (JL) and front/rear from HU would go to rear in (JL)

Yes more then a few, [RBC-1]

The front or rear from HU will go to JL rear input, if your only using 1 set for both front and rear. 94
