JL 12w3 box?????
Any of you guys that actually build sub boxes...I need some info
would a single JL 12w3 sound alright in a ported box?
Info: Sub Enclosure features A 36.5” long slotted port tuned to 36 Hz and a 3/4” Baffle Subsdotkom # 3074 5/8” & 3/4” construction Sealed with a hot melt adhesive Charcoal grey automotive carpet Gold terminals 1.63 total cubic feet air space 11-1/16” mounting hole 18” wide x 13.5” high x 15” deep
I have No idea what any of that means...I just dont like the sealed box I have it in right now and was thinking of getting a ported box...if not maybe I will just have a better sealed box made for it

The dimensions that you specified were for the subwoofer box you purchased. You should go to the JL audio website and look up the dimensions they specify for the 12W3, and then build your box accordingly.
As far as sealed vs ported, a sealed box will sound cleaner with tighter bass, as opposed to a ported box being louder but somewhat sloppier.

Not this again
The sealed guys have port envy
As said before, it sounds like you are trying to buy a prefab ported box. Check jl's site and compare their specs. If the volume is within 10% and the tuning freq on the box is reasonable then go for it. If it is a ported box, and they do not list a tuning freq then run away.

You may be able to buy a jl built box for the sub. I know they are available for the w7's. I am not sure what other lines though.
