Default Ipod input project on 98 Integra (stock stereo)

Hello,

I've been thinking about a project I would like to embark on which places an input for my ipod (aux or digital ipod cable, doesn't matter) on one of the switch cutouts beneath the handbrake. It would have a female input protruding that is flush to the cutout .

One hard part is obviously finding a way to create an input for the ipod from the stock stereo. I haven't had much luck in researching the topic :\

The next step is finding a way to wire to that area of the car.

If anyone could point me in the right direction as to reference material, it would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!

Go with a hard wired fm modulator. It links to the radio through the antenna and when power is applied it shuts down the antenna and only takes signal through the source unit(ipod/phone). The only problem is that it is an analog signal which doesn't sound as good as a digital signal but it gets the job done. The best unit that I have encountered is an Isimple IS77. It also comes with a flush mount aux jack. Go to there website www.isimplesolutions.com

I'd really rather not have an FM modulator because I am an audiophile and appreciate good sound...Although I've never heard of a hard wired FM modulator, I wonder if it would sound better than the lighter input ones..

Ew, FM modulation will result in loss of signal quality.

Plugs into the CD changer port in the back of stock headunit, allows 5 playlists to emulate discs 1-5, control through headunit or iPod, adds an additional input too.

Ditto the above^^^ there are a number of iPod "adapters" out there thatplug into the CD changer port on the back of the stock HU.

Your Google search found this... http://www.google.ca/search?q=98+Int...8&sourceid=ie7 94

Awesome!

Do you know where I could find information on how to wire to that part of the car and how to remove and make holes in those cutouts?

Wiring it in (the USA Spec one anyway) involves plugging the end of the cable into the only available port in the back of the stock headunit (assuming the 98 headunit is the same as the 2000).

To make a hole in the blockoff plate a Dremel would be my first go-to tool. Remove the entire arm rest, and you'll see how the blockoff plates are attached. There should be adequate clearance to run the cable under the center plastic.

I thought the CD/AUX adapters used the analog signal out or the ear bud. At least most are AUX adapter to phono jack for the Ipod.

Pull out your radio first and make sure that you have the connection for the cd changer. This is the only reason that I suggested the modulator.

Either click a link and read, or try thinking. How on earth could the headunit get access to playlists without using the data port?

Thanks for the considerate reply. I did try thinking. Turns out that I have the phonejack to aux unit and it does not display. I knew that when I got it. I guess I did not read that requirement in OP's statement. I decided the other type unit cost about as much as some of the decks with usb and Ipod capability which will be my eventual upgrade.

You're an audiophile who wants to keep his stock stereo in a 98 integra?
