Default horn ouput (- 250mA) from alarm rerouted through a relay to a 12v siren? cm4200 (install pdf link)

Hey guys, ive installed a very basic alarm, and I have a white wire coming from my alarm that is a negative 250mA output that is supposed to be routed to the horn. Now i really dislike the horn's sound, and since i have a siren hanging around i would like to use it. I went to the store and bought a relay that says 12v 20/30A on it. The woman at the store pointed me out to this, but i was wondering can a 250mA negative output be enough to power the coil of the relay and activate the other circuit. I think i understand the basics of a relay, but im not sure if the one i have is rated low enough? Oh, and my alarm doesnt have a siren output, or i wouldnt be complaining so much. lol.

Oh, and this is on a 95 integra, but im not sure if that matters to much. Thanks a bunch for any responses.

Yes, 250mA is enough to trigger a relay.

What you have installed is a remote start, it is not an alarm, [basic or otherwise]. 94

wait what? it isnt an alarm, or did you mean its a shitty alarm (i agree) lol. I got the relay to work, but for some reason even though i setup the door triggers to the alarm correctly *checked with a multimeter* it doesnt go off when i open the doors manually .

That's right, it's not an alarm at all. If it doesn't come with a siren that's a sure sign. It's been so long since I installed remote start or keyless without an alarm (it just doesn't make sense) that I forgot that they even make them.

The horn output is just used for confirmation. The door triggers are used in conjunction with the valet to put the alarm into programming mode.

I meant it is not an alarm, it is a remote start, it is a very good remote start.

The door input, [along with the E-brake and trunk inputs] are only needed if your car has a standard transmission, [part of "reservation mode"] and are not needed for an automatic.

As mentioned the horn output is only for confirmation, [like the light flash] to let you know the system has received a command from the remote.

Compustar makes alarms, remote starts and alarm/remote start combo units, the CM4200 brain is a remote start... http://www.compustar.com/main.htm 94
