Default Horn causing radar detector to go off?

Hey guys,

So tonight i was driving with my buddy, when this car came up my a** real quick, so I figured he wanted to race me, especially when he went to pass me on the right of a double solid. Then it came to my attention it was a pick-up being a complete a**hole. So I honked at him, and as soon as I pressed the horn button, my Passport radar detector lit up with a LASER signal. So obviously i freaked out.

Then I remember this happened before when I honked the horn driving by my buddys work, and the same LASER warning showed up. So I don't understand how it happens? It only sometimes does it when I go to hold on the horn, and haven't used the horn in a few days.

The Passport is hardwired into the car somewhere, bought it like that. Is there anyway that the horn could be doing something through the electrical system that make it detect a laser signal? Or do I actually have radar on me?

Radar on you? Really? Never saw radar as a feature on any of these as they were sold. YOu answered your own question. Get the wiring job un-fubarred.

Sounds like the previous owner connected to the horn 12VDC source for the radar detector. I wouldn't be surprised if other things aren't "ghetto rigged".

Car certainly isn't "ghetto rigged" by any means. Past 3 owners were Type R community members that attend the Type R expo. Very clean well kept ex-track car.

But apparently the honking the horn can cause electromagnetic interference throughout the electrical system of the car. My sisters Acura CL has this problem, and I didnt put it together immediately but sometimes when she hits vtec, her V1 radar detector goes off. so problem solved I guess, as "electromagnetic interference."

^^ sometimes halfway through 4th gear pulls in my civic the radar would chime full blast.. that's the scariest feeling!! i couldn't ever pin point why it did but i guess it could've been from the vtec or something
