Default Honda Civic stereo, the beggining.

So I own this 2000 Honda Civic and I'm not much of a ICE guy, but my car audio is totally messed up.

Currently I have this cheap Pioneer CD player, with stock front speakers.
IN the rear only one speaker works, the other one is gone.
The two little speakers right next to my mirrors are blown.

I want to replace everything that I need and upgrade the headunit.
EDIT: I don't know if after upgrading the speakers I should also purchase those little tweeters.

I have +/- $700 budget and NO IDEA where to start.

So far I figured I need a headunit and 4 speakers, fronts and back.

I'm not gonna invest in subwoofers and amplifiers, because I need the room in the trunk, so that is out of question.

I'd like my audio be able to play MP3's and all I care about is so I can listen to music, LOUD and CLEAR.

IF anyone want's to chime in on what units and speakers I should look into, please go ahead.

PS. I DID SEARCH.

Finally some response.

I think you are right and first I'm going to buy a headunit and work with that.

I'm looking at Alpine CDA-9831.

First I wanted to pair them up with some Infinitis, but I was reading you shouldn't power those with the headunit but an amp.

I'm gonna research those Eclipses.

why don't you start by not being like everyone else. All I ever hear from people here is "infinity this" and "alpine that". Sure infinity and alpine make descent products but there's alot better stuff out there. why don't you go on ebay, find yourself a nice pioneer cheap deck like the 3600 model and invest the rest of your money in some FOCAL front components and a small 2-channel amp to run them. You'll be alot happier in the future when you realize you don't have mass-produced cheapo circuit city ****. that's my .02 cents

Probably because everytime I search this forum I come up with Infiniti this and Alpine that.

Like I said, I have no clue about audio prodcuts and I'm here to learn but appreciate your .02 cents, I'll do some more research.

that's cool man sorry to snap I just hear that everyday. but yeah go on eaby and buy yourself a pioneer 3600, some focal polyglass components (6&1/2), and a small 2 channel amp to power them (this is going to be the key to a nice sounding system). I would reccomend a audison if you can afford it.

And just to make sure I understand Alpine is cheap mass-produced **** and Pioneer is not. and you think a Pioneer 3600 is "alot" better then an Alpine 9831 94

WOW dont lisen to this dude if he thinks that pioneer is not cheap mass produced ****. Infinity speakers are the best for the money and they sound great no matter of a hu or amp pio **** sucks! Alpine and infinity are very high quality products.

i disagree my whole system if pioneer and i love it,

Front
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...=WDVW

Rear
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...=WDVW

Deck
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...&rd=1

And i had 2 pioneer 10's with an amp but sold em.

pioneer black subs suck though, i had these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...38646

with a crunch amp i bought for 80$ at frys (that **** hit so HARD) (1000watts bridged)(never overheated)

so basicly stay away from cheap name brand ****, research and get good stuff.

Mb quartz are really good too.

1st: I'd recommend using an amp. I'd say a 2-channel at the least. If you have the money, you could go for a 4-channel...perhaps bridge 2 channels for bass, but I figure that'll rattle your car anyway. So a nice 2-channel amp might work fine. Need help with this = just ask.

2nd: Component recommendation:Alpine SPX177r (Under 250), Resonant Engineering RE line (Under 180).

3rd: Headunit: going to have to budget this one...not sure, but eclipse, alpine, pioneer, clarion = nice starting points. I'm partial to eclipse.

4th: Consider that you'll need an extra $50 or so for wiring and install materials and unforeseen garbage...

5th: I'd recommend either ditching or going cheap on the rear fill AND using headunit power for it [Fade it].

Hope that helps...

And if you want to save a $, and the rear speakers are 6.5" why not just put one or both of the good ones from up front in the rear, its just for rear fill anyway, and will help imaging and staging not haveing tweeters in the rear. 94

I'm aware that he didn't want to use an amp, but after reviewing his goals, I decided that they'd be impossible to attain without the use of one. Perhaps I'm too demanding... It is also my opinion that no headunit amp is adequate.

I'm sure he could find room for an amp if he tried... I can fit 3 amps, a powersupply, and an equalizer in my 3g prelude...none of that is even in the trunk or dash, and I can still seat 4 people.

I have to agree all I hear is Alpine this Alpine that but I just don't understand it. Yes I have an Alpine deck in my truck. I have a JVC Aresonal in my Accord and it blows the Alpine away. Both are great but I like the JVC Aresonal better. I wouldnt hesitate to get the Alpine though I just am not sure why everyone only likes them. I do love my Alpine speakers I have in my car though. I highly reccomend them and love them. I just wasn't impressed with the Alpine deck after using the JVC Aresonal.
