Default Honda 2006 Pilot - Stereo/Security question

Ive read that if i remove my factory stereo from my Honda 2006 Pilot EX, this will cause 2 things to happen:

a) the moment the radio is removed, the cars factory alarm will trigger, and

b) the moment 12vdc power is not provided to the radio, this will put the radio into 'CODE' mode (where the user must reconnect the stereo to the car, and enter the required stereo specific code number to cause the stereo to operate normally again). i understand fully how to reconnect the stereo and enter the required code to make the radio function again - so this is not my question...

I am writing to ask about 'a' above.

If I remove my own cars stereo, and the alarm triggers - how would i make my cars alarm stop making noise? ive read that i am supposed to insert my key into a door lock, turn it to 'lock' position, then to 'unlock' position, and that should in theory quiet my cars alarm (can anyone confirm the procedure?).

however even if this works to quiet my alarm, what will happen if the radio remains out of my car, will the alarm keep triggering each time i try to enter or start my car until the radio is placed back into the car? i dont want to have my cars alarm going off each time i go to enter/start my car - this would be a huge bother to those around me.

to be more proactive about this - my aimpoint would be to figure out which 2 pins, of which plug on the back of my stereo would need to be connected together to 'fool' my car to think the stereo is still plugged in?

i want to remove my cars stereo for an undetermined period of time - and drive my car during this period of time. my reason for this is i want to put my stereo on my electronics workbench to try to reverse engineer some of the pinouts on the many plugs at the back. as publically ive seen some pinout info for some pins, but not for all of them, and not for all of the plugs that are there.

i would prefer to have BOTH my stereo out of my car for awhile as i evaluate it on my bench AND be able to open/start/drive my car for this same period of time - WITHOUT setting off the cars alarm, as clearly my stereo has NOT BEEN STOLEN. its simply been temporarily removed by its legal owner.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

ps - URL link to plugs on rear of my stereo is here.

Default Re: Honda 2006 Pilot - Stereo/Security question

In my 15+ years in car audio, I've never heard or seen a factory car alarm trigger due to radio removal. Not to say in some odd way it's not possible, but typically the two systems are not tied together. I'm 99.9999999999999999999999% sure you will be fine to actually take the radio out .

Yes it is common for OEM radios to require a code be entered when there is a loss of 12v power. It's a theft/security feature, with the code typically being written somewhere in the owner's manual. I have heard of some stealerships also being able to provide it for a fee.

please forgive my naive reply here as ive worked in the car stereo industry for 0 days - but i do otherwise read alot...

isnt the entire idea (both desired by auto insurance companies and auto makers) to prevent stereo theft?

yet you are saying if i remove the stereo out of most any car, of any manufacture, stereos having high value - this will NOT set of an alarm?

while i cant argue with what youve seen in the field - i find this unbelieveable...

can you add a little more insight into this topic? just for my understanding.

thanks.
