Car starter install/buying?

Car starter install/buying?
I have a 02 civic si coupe, and wanted to get a auto starter for the car.
I'm 17 and have moderate knowledge about cars.
This is the starter I am looking at: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en
____
Questions
1. How hard on a scale from 1-10 would it be to install? (1 being easiest and 10 being really hard)
2. Other than that starter, to get everything up and running will I need anything else? What?
Thanks

For one, spend the money right the first time and get something name brand. The more generic the brand the more issues you will have with say customer service and tech support. Get something made by DEI or Crimestopper or arctic start. anything DEI brand is great and you never have to worry about tech support not having an answer.
On a scale of 1-10 it depends on your experience. the install itself should be fairly easy but it will involve a bypass for sure, and you have to be sure and get the right one. sometimes you can luck out with a local shop and buy the bypass through them and have them flash it as well with the right firmware. If you have never installed a starter before and haven't taken your car apart before I would reccomend at least having someone walk you through it or show you how the first time. Each car is a different animal. I can bang out a Kia or, chevy, or Hyundai in 20-30 minutes. VW's, euro cars, and a lot of others can take 2hours sometimes 4 depending on the set up. Good luck and take your time. always test your wires before you connect anything to be sure you have the right wire. Don't want to fry the ecu! or other key parts.

Everything is either 12v or ground with this car, no resistors or anything too complicated. You just need an immobilizer bypass on top of the starter.

I believe all the main ignition wires are some what thinner than most cars so just be sure to use appropriate t-taps or if you decide to strip the wires be sure you don't cut through all the way...can sometimes be a pain to splice back together. hope this helps.

Is the car automatic? Remote starts should only be installed on automatics.
Always solder, NEVER TTAP. Go with Python, Viper, Clifford.
Don't go cheap! Cheap electronics FAIL.

ProStart makes a good dependable remote start, they have been around for a long time, longer then DEI, Artic Start is just a Compustar by another name.
Just because it's not expensive, [over-priced] does not mean it is not a good product, the CT-3271 is compatible with manual transmissions and has all the "features" of any "name brand remote start, I have been installing them as long as they have been around and the return, [defective] rate on them is lower then most "brand name" systems, including DEI units.
You will need a bypass module, we would use a Fortin Key-Override-All or the Honda-SL3... http://ifar.ca/en/vehicles/honda/civic/2002/
Here is a tag in sheet... http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/diagr...18683&MakeID=3
Also, as mentioned, solder all your connections, DO NOT use T-taps or AMP connectors.
If you want to make things a little easier pick up a T harness, something like this, [Bulldog].
That way you do not need to cut or cut into your ign. switch harness and it makes connecting the heavy gauge leads a lot easier. 94

Re: Car starter install/buying?
For the interface/bypass module, may I recommend the iDatalink ADS-AL CA.
It will bypass the chip-in-key, as well as control door lock/unlock, OEM alarm and trunk/hatch release.
And it just happens (yes, shameless plug!) due to a shipping error I have an extra 4 ADS-AL CA units here... typically I just order as required for my installs, but received more than expected. I have them up on ebay right now (search ebay for item # 330662436440 )
Love the units (been using them for over 3 years), and have yet to come across a bad one. The install guides are also easy to follow.

T Tap sometimes can't be avoided, some cars if under a lease or stipulations by the bank/insurance/warranty etc. I agree, always solder when you can, I'm sorta used to having to use t taps, unfortunately, becasue most shops in NY don't solder anything. Totally agree with soldering if you want to do it right...if it doesn't void warranty or lease! lol.
