Default Eclispe cd7100

I have been an Eclipse 8v owner for a long time now (previously had a CD8443 installed), and continue to have great success with their products. For anybody seeking a top-notch CD head unit, this is the one... in typical Eclipse fashion it features more adjustability than you will know what to do with, and sound output that rivals even F1 and other audiophile head units. Some of the features that have been improved upon (over my CD8443) are the cross-overs (now selectable all the way up to 24dB/oct.), and the detachable face is a welcome addition for me. The display is bright and easy to read even in the daylight, with just enough information displayed (or none if you opt to turn it off, or have an animated background playing). The remote uses normal AAA batteries now, making it slightly larger, but a lot easier to find replacements for down the road. The controls are well sorted, and familiar to any Eclipse user. I have added the iPC-106 iPod adapter, SIR-ECL1 Sirius satellite radio, as well as the GPS105 unit. All of these add-ons work flawlessly and are simple to operate. The new area shot navigation works well, and is pretty simple to install and operate... I look forward to using it on unfamiliar roads.

Now, for the meat and potatoes...

When connected to amps, the 7100's 8v outputs really shine. I have Rainbow Loudspeaker 2 way components in the front doors of my GS-R sedan and a pair of Boston Acoustics SL95 6x9s in the factory openings in the rear. Driving these is a Boston GT40 amplifier and a lot of nice wiring. I do not have my low frequency equipment yet, but my mids/highs are very clear and detailed, with nothing lost in the transmission. I have not used the on-board amp inside the 7100, but if is anything like my CD8443 it is on par with any other 50x4 peak watt head-unit out there.

Cliffs: If you are in the market for a top-notch CD head unit, buy the Eclipse CD7100 and be happy about it.
