headunit turns on and off v. weird
ive never had problems in the past but this time is different i dont know why.
car: 92 integra
headunit: sony cdx-450x
wired up everything correctly (believe so, i used diagram from installdr.com). due to theft they cut off my stock wire harness. so im using a stock wire harness from 96-99 civic. Bought the metra plug kit, color matched all the wires. ground is good.
1st problem: when i hook up the remote wire from my amps to the radio harness the HU will cut on and off with no sound. when i unhook the remote wire, the HU will play fine.
2nd problem: when i turn the key to the 1st on position, the HU will turn on and play fine. when i turn the key again to 2nd on posistion the HU will turn on and off and will not play.
this is the 4th headunit ive installed in this car. first three went in perfect, now this. what am i doing wrong?

Could be wiring, or maybe damage from the theft.
So I understand, the stock radio plug was cut off when they stole the last HU, you then got a stock plug from a "96-99 civic", do you mean a 96 - 98 Civic, as the stock radio plug would be the same on a 92 teg as it is on a 96 - 98 Civic.
You then connected the Civic plug to your 92 tegs cut, stock radio harness, then got a Metra 70-1720 adapter harness and connected the Sony HUs wire harness to the Metra adapter harness. ["color matched all the wires"] then plugged the Metra adaptor plug into the Civic plug you wired to the teg's radio harness, is that all correct?
The only diff. in the 2 plugs would be the Civic would not have the yellow/white, power ant. control lead that the teg has.
If its from a 99 Civic the plug is diff. but the wire colors are the same.

yes its from 96-98 civic. it did not have yellow/white wire for antenna. it also had a solid red wire towards the middle of the plug/harness?
everything you said is correct. checked my wiring over 100 times..i dont want to be forced to take it to a shop and get raped..

can you supply pics of the install, Also unplug the ant and see if the headunit comes on.

Check the fuses for damage, just because they look good does not mean they are, replace them with new ones to be sure, also inspect the fuse "plug/holder" and fuse terminals, ["legs"] are they clean, [free of corrosion?] is the fuse mounted solidly in it's "plug/holder" does "wiggling" the fuse cut the HU in and out? 94

update: im so stupid..my battery was drained out. so when i jumped started the car and recharged the batt everything worked..
