fuse distribution block 4ga in, (2)4ga out?
I have 4ga power wire from the battery to the back of the car. It then goes to a fuse distribution block. I have at the moment 8ga outputs. I am redoing my system and i do not want to rerun the wire from the battery to the distribution block. My question is, is it ok to run 4ga in and have two 4 ga outs on the distribution block? This will be for dual amps, one for highs and one for subs. Thanks!

Re: (B18C_EJ8)
Cool. I talked to a guy at the local audio shop, and he said that it would be best if I ran a 2ga wire from the battery to the dist. block. He said that having (2) 4ga outputs would put power strain on the 4ga input. I thought he might have been bs'ing. Thanks!

its not wrong but that also depends how you fuse it. if you put a 250amp fuse on teh 4awg in....then its wrong. if you fuse it at something less than 150amps you'll be fine. My question to you is why do you need 2 4awg out if a single 4awg in will supply enough current safely.

it WOULD be best but not really necessary unless you're running some big power.
just remember the current demands of you amplifiers...most glass-tube fuses only goto about 80A...after that you'll want to go to the long, flat ANL style fuses that usually go from 80 or 90A to 200A+.

" and he said that it would be best if I ran a 2ga wire from the battery to the dist. block." he is wrong, the best way would be to run 2 lines, use the 4ga for the sub amp and run a new line for the high-pass amp, ditch the distribution block altogether, and eliminate all the connections in it, two leads from the batt. will effectively isolate the amps power supplies from each other. 94

true or you could run 1 2 gauge back...run it into a fused distribution block to 2 4 gauge outs...then you could also wire in a cap if you have one to help with the transients.
6 in one...1/2 dozen in the other...either way you got choices
