Compustar 2W900FMR Remote Not Responding
After the cold weather we have been having here in the Northeast, my Compustar 2 way remote has stopped working as in not paging/unlocking/locking/remote starting etc. No matter what button I press or replacing the battery, it won't communicate with the car at all. I can set the time and all and the remote still buzzes and lights up when the battery is put in.
Although my 1 way remote does work fine in locking/unlocking/remote starting etc so I am using that as of now. And since my 1 way remote still works, I could say my antennae and alarm brain is fine.
All I want to know is that is my 2 way remote shot?...It did have problems during hot weather during the past couple summers. The remote/alarm system is over 3 years old.
I found this replacement remote that comes with the 1 way and 2 way as a set for a pretty good price: http://www.lesscoelectronics.com/Com...202w900fmr.htm
Can I easily just program the two new remotes to work with my alarm brain? (Or just the 2 way only and keep the old 1 way).
TIA

Not yet, I'll try that before I end up buying a new one...although my remote is cracked a little bit and all. I don't know how it could've lost its programming though.

Re: Compustar 2W900FMR Remote Not Responding
Ok, so I re-programed both remotes at the same time. The 1 way still works perfectly but the 2 way sometimes will work and sometimes will not. When it doesn't work, I usually tap it against my hand then it ends up communicating with my car when I hit the buttons. But then after say a couple minutes, it doesn't work again and I have to tap the 2 way against my hand to make it work. So it's an on and off thing with the 2 way remote.
I'm thinking the 2 way has bad solder connections inside possibly?

Would be my guess, open it up and "touch up" the solder points, [most likely to be one around the ant., maybe the ant. connection itself].
Do you have a solder pencil and some 60/40 resin core solder?
If not, I bet an installer at your local mom&pop car audio/security shop would do it for an extra large coffee and a donut, I would. 94

Re: Compustar 2W900FMR Remote Not Responding
I do have a solder iron. If I can find it then I might be able to do it myself. Been a while since I used one though. Not sure if it's the kind you described but it's a soldering kit from radio shack.
Thanks for the help!

Soldering gun...
http://www.cooperhandtools.com/brand...c=037103475411 would not work.
Soldering pencil...
http://www.cooperhandtools.com/brand...c=037103593795 With the proper sharp pointy tip needed to re-solder connections on a remote controls circuit board.
A solder "sucker"... http://www.cooperhandtools.com/brand...c=037103039637 or solder wick would be handy as sometimes you have to remove the old solder, but the heat and whip it method works just as well.
Don't forget the 60/40 resin core solder also, [very thin].
