Cold weather killing signal for alarm/remote start?
The weather is finally starting to get cold around here and it looks like I'm going to have issues with my alarm/remote starter again this winter. I replaced the battery last year because I was having issues with the car not wanting to turn over on really cold mornings. I still think the tiny group 51 battery just hates the cold weather
though. But if it was the battery then I would assume I would have issues starting the car....this seems like in cold weather the signal is weak?
This morning I went to hit the remote start and I didn't hear any beeps. I hit the door unlock button and still didn't hear anything. I had to go outside and literally walk right up to my car and hit the button to unlock the doors a couple of times before it did anything??
It's doesn't seem like it's my car battery because once I got in the car started up fine. Anyone have any ideas on what I can even look for to troubleshoot this issue? I'm wondering if it's the actual alarm system or something to do with the brain and the cold?
Car is a 07 Accord lx 4cyl and the alarm system is made by prestige (not sure of the exact model #)

How old is the alarm/remote start?
When was the last time you replaced the batt. in the remote?
Short transmit range is an indication of a low remote control batt.
I would also make sure systems ant. is plugged in properly.
For any more help we would need system model number. 94

big thing people look over and don't know is that the placement of the systems antenna has a lot to do with sensitivity. If the antenna is placed behind the factory tint band at the top of the windshield or behind/partially blocked by metal that will automatically cut your capable range almost in half if not more. I say first thing is check your antenna positioning. Second...this you may not know but if you had it installed locally I would find out how they installed the sysytem as far as does it satrt using 12v sensing or Tach? If it is set up to start using 12v sense then this would explain the problem becasue your cars battery is weaker in the winter months. I always set up with Tach even though it can be more involved but it eliminates this situation from happening becasue it uses your cars tach signal instead. In the winter time your signal actually travels further becasue in theory the air is colder and lighter, not as dense, allowing the frequency to travel easier and further.

The alarm system and remote start is around 3-4 years old. The battery in the remote isn't that old either.
I will have to call the installer to find out how it is wired and also what the exact model number is. I also have to double check but I think my antenna is located towards the top of the windshield, possibly behind the rear-view mirror. If that's a bad spot for an antenna, where would I want it moved to?
I only have issues with the range when the temps get low. I usually have good range for the alarm and remote start otherwise. What worried me the most was that I had to walk right next to the car just to unlock the doors with the remote. I was thinking that it was my battery

If your antenna is behind the tint band (upper dark part of your windshield) it could cause issues with range. If your remote starter has issues in the cold it sounds like your system is set up for 12 volt sensing and needs to be adjusted or set up for Tach Sense. Get some 3m double sided tape, remove the antenna and before you place it somewhere else leave it hanging or set in on the dash and try walking around the car from a distance and see if it works the same or has issues still. if no more issues than the antenna just needs to be moved.

Well the temps haven't dipped low enough to cause any issues again so I'm not sure where I stand.
I moved the antenna from behind the mirror to along the side just under the drop tint. I also made sure to change the battery.
Once the temps actually drop again I'll report back if I am still having problems.
