Default Clifford(DEI) 50.7X 2 way-98 Accord LX 4dsd.

I will be attempting a diy install of a Clifford 50.7X 2way alarm with remote start in my 98 Accord LX 4dsd, 2.3l,automatic. The Accord has a factory "key sense" ignition system, but does not have a factory alarm system nor does it have electronic hood or trunk release...I have several questions that if answered would help me greatly in preparing for this install...OK, here goes:

1. I was told by a local car alarm installer that since my Accord has a "key sense" ignition system that I would need a bypass transponder, specifically a "791 bypass transponder". If this is the case; what is a good name to buy, or are they all about the same? In addition; I was told by the installer that i would need "door lock relays" and possibly other relays where the alarm system interfaces the low voltage/low current multiplex signaling system that the Honda manufacturer employs in designing the lighting and switching circuits. If this is the case, how do I "spec-out" the relays for different applications and where can they be ordered?

2. Where can I find a GOOD DETAILED wiring diagram for the Accord?
Preferably with pictorials/photos.

3.Clifford(DEI) recommends that I find an installer with a Bitwriter programming tool to set up alarm functions...what is a Bitwriter? and can I get away w/o having to invest in an expensive piece of electronic gadgetry?

4. The installer says he uses "T-lock" connectors when wiring the remote start to the car's ignition system. I took a close look at them and they(T-lock connectors) looked "cheesy" to me especially when the copper ignition wire guage is in the #8-#10awg range. I guess I must be "old school" but I was always taught to solder electrical connections especially when it pertains to the heavier wire guages...would someone be kind enough to shed some light on this observation?

5. Lastly, does anyone know where I can obtain a decent quality cover for the alarm's 2 way remote...It looks so frail and cheesy that I fear damaging its plastic shell and viewing window with all the "rough & tumble" my keys and key chain get during the course of an average day.

Default Re: Clifford(DEI) 50.7X 2 way-98 Accord LX 4dsd.

You shouldn't need any extra relays. Your accord just uses a (-) trigger for door locks, it just wires straight the green and blue lock/unlock wires from the alarm. Your car does require second ignition, but the relay is built into the alarm for that, (it's the thick pink/white wire, and it's factory default programmed for second ignition outta the box). On RARE occasion, I have needed doorlock relays for negative trigger locks, mostly Chrysler with 1 wire locks, but a 451m relay pack comes in the box with that Clifford.

Bitwriter isn't a necessity for your car. You can program all the stuff necessary for the 98 accord through your valet switch.

As far as a dtetailed wire diagram with pics, I don't know of any good places to get that info without being a dealer, or paying a subscription. The12volt.com usually has decent wiring info that u don't need a subscription for, but it usually doesn't have pics.

Your car will require a transponder bypass, there are several products to choose from, check out xpresskit.com.

I don't know where you could get a protective case for your fob, sorry.

T-taps... I hate them. They can wiggle loose over time, and cause major trouble shooting headaches down the road. Solder is the only method of wire connection I recomend for vehicle security installs.

EDIT: I have received a cpl PM's about the use of T-taps (thanks for being respectful, and not starting a war of words on the thread!)... Well, although they may not be my preferred choice of wire termination (it just takes an hour or two of trouble shooting an alarm only to find out a loose t-tap was the culprit to put a bad taste in your mouth), some installers have been extremely successful over the years using them. Thats probably why they are still around... As long as the installer actually understands that the t-taps are manufacutured in different sizes according to the gauge of the wire they are to be used on, I don't see very many problems with them. The problems I get are from when the wrong size tap is used. I do apoloqize for voicing such a strong feeling towards them. I just wanted to say that they can be used successfully, no matter my opinion!
