Default Clarion CD changer compatible with Pioneer head unit?

I currently have a Pioneeer heard unit (DEH-P7200) and have recently acquired a used Clarion CD changer for free. I took it to a shop to get it hooked up and they guy told me I can't use the Clariond changer with my Pioneer head unit. He said I would have to get a Clarion head unit or a Pioneer CD changer. Is this true?

Yes. Different changers have different procotols and plugs. theoretically, you can take the connectors apart and trace the wires, but it would a pain in the *** and take way too long that it isn't worth it.
