1995 Civic Stock Deck with Alpine Speakers - back speakers cut out
Hi,
I have a 1995 Civic Si with the 6 speaker Acoustic Research sound system.
All the main speakers were blown, so I got basic Alpine speakers to replace them with. After installing them, on the drive home, they sounded great, but just a block from my apartment, the back two speakers cut out instantly and haven't resumed working again.
I have the stock headunit with a CD changer to Aux converter and don't want to replace the deck given it sounds fine to my ears and looks better as it matches the interior of the car.
Does anyone on here know what happened to my deck? Is there a fuse either internally or externally (to the deck) that I can replace? Can I resolder any components on the amp board at the back of the deck - i've had it apart and it looks fairly easy to work on.
I assumed - given the speakers cut out very abruptly with no noise or distortion beforehand - that it was something like a fuse of circuit protector that had cut in.
I'd like to continue using my stereo (on a lower volume than before) if at all possible, so any thoughts on how to fix it would be awesome.
I've already had it apart, nothing smelled burned - just that mid-90s toxic electronics smell as usual and as such have reset the whole thing by unplugging it from power etc which had no effect on the back speakers not working.
Cheers,
Chris

It's not the deck. One of the new Alpine SPS-600 speakers in the rear blew. I unplugged it and the deck plays out the other rear one now. Good to know it is able to cut out when the ohms get too low and not just smoke
I am surprised though, I would assume this is a DOA part, and not a speaker that can't be played at reasonable volumes without blowing up. I'll find out from the autosound store on Monday when I go to get this exchanged.
Anyone heard of something like this happening before?
