Car Stereo Stays On, HELP!!
I drive a 00 Civic EK hatchback with an OEM stereo, the problem just started coming up when I turn off my car my car radio stays on for some reason. Most of the time it turns off, but this morning when I walked out to pull my car up the drive way my car radio was on and playing. WTF right?! And so I went to go crank my car and my battery is dead, I jumped it, but everything flickers, dash lights and everything and it makes the clicking noise. I know my battery is dead, and I need to go get a new one now but I was wondering what's causing my radio to stay on like that. As of now, I haven't gotten a new battery yet, but it is for sure dead, but my radio light is still on! But when I stick in my key to the point before ignition, everything turns off and that click noise happens. But when I pull out my radio comes back on. I want to know how to fix this in order to not drain my new battery. Thank you!
Posted this in the model specific thread but I'm hoping one of you electrical guys can help me out!!

first, just recharge your battery, it's not dead, just drained, second pull the radio out and check the wires something is wrong with the wires.

Remove the radio, and make sure the yellow/red wire doesn't have 12v... If it does, you may need to trouble shoot your ignition switch. If it doesn't, your radio may be bad. I can't explain how it happens, but there has been a cpl times that ive had to remove electronics bc they dont turn off even when switched power isn't applied.
Out of curiousity.. does your cigarette lighter stay on with the key off when the radio is staying on?

I pulled out the relays and pulled out the fuses for the radio, when the fuses are out the radio stayed on. I pulled out the relay put it back in, problem remained. And my cigarette has a cover 12V, so I don't know if it stays on.

Re: Car Stereo Stays On, HELP!!
Take the 12v cover off, and find some kind of phone charger or something to plug into that bad boy... If that stays on, that would tell me if that whole acc circuit is staying on, pointing me into two different directions... Either the ignition switch, or a relay for a remote start, if u have one. As far as removing the fuse, the one specifically under your dash, doesn't tell me too much, unless you've owned the car since new, 10 yrs ago. A previous owner couldve rewired switched power from a different circuit in your car... So I can't say that since u pulled the relay and fuse, that your radio is bad....

Re: Car Stereo Stays On, HELP!!
Well today I reconnected the relay, my radio stayed OFF when my car was ON, so maybe it's the radio? I just know that the number 27 and 28 fuses are out, and I keep my relay for my radio out. I haven't tried the 12v yet.

Same problem just happened to me today out of the blue. 2001 accord I have owned it since it was new and have never rewired/replaced the factory radio or any other wiring in the entire car. All of the buttons on the radio have no control and it stays on when I turn the ignition off and open the door. I have pulled the fuse to prevent my battery from going dead, but am looking for a permenant solution that will allow me to use the radio and cig lighter again. Please help, thanks!!!!

Re: Car Stereo Stays On, HELP!!
Since both of you guys have oem radios, lets check our switched power wires. the OP with the civic with your radio out, the switched power wire is yellow/red.
The accord, your switched power wire is white/red.
Put all your fuses back in, your radios should be on even with the key off, take your radio out, and see if this wire has 12v with the radio plugged in. If it does, unplug the radio and retest. if it still has power, we just need to run a new switched power wire to the radio. If it doesn't, your radio is prob bad.

Problem solved. I took out the fuse for about a week and decided to put it back in, now radio works fine. Radio must of had an internal issue that needed to reset when power was removed?????? Oh well thanks for the help.

Re: Car Stereo Stays On, HELP!!
Hi guys I got a similar problem.
Before my car radio, clock and cigarettes lighter use to turn off when I use to turn the engine off and take out the key. However for past week the radio, ciggarate lighter and the clock stays on even after I take the key out. I can still use the radio on off button to turn on and off the radio after I take the key out but it always have power. Which drained my battery and will do the same again if I don't cut the power supply.
Anyone know why this happening all of a sudden and how I can fix it and go back to how it was before.

Check ign. switch to see if acc. power is staying on, [defective ign. switch]
Also unplug the stereo and see if the clock and lighter turn off, if they do the problem is a blown diode, [between the switched and constant powers] in the stereo and power is back feeding into the cars acc. circuit. 94

Thanks , I found the problem, it was my radio fuse which controls the ciggarate lighter , radio and the clock. I pushed in to hard few days back hence the problem of constant power supply. I took the fuse out today and out it back in which solved the problem.
So if anyone having problem similar to mine, check your radio fuse first. If I didn't fix the problem my self, I would of spent £110 to do a electric diogonostic on my car 😠
