alpine cd changer
hey guys, i just got a new 99 accord and saw that its got a 6 disc changer but i can't really figure out how to work it. i got it to work one time (by hitting the CD button on the radio) but since then it hasn't ever worked again. is there some sorta trick to getting it to play? could it just be loose wires?
btw its an Alpine aftermarket changer... sometimes when i hit the cd/changer button it displays EEE ... now it wont even try to switch to changer it just stays in regular cd mode.
i got the car used and it was like this when i got it. any ideas?
thanks a lot

Re: alpine cd changer (rtw118)
I have the same thing in my car, EEE usually just means that there is no CD's in the magazine or that it cant access the changer at the moment, maybe the mag isnt even in. I'm assuming its a stock deck with the changer which is what mine is and you just press the radio preset buttons 1,2,3,4,5,6 to get that # CD then you control the track with the + or - Let me know if i am makingany sense or if u need mroe help

you hit the middle button that says something like CD/Tape Changer and that will switch between the single CD player that is in the HU and the Cd changer. once you are into the CD changer a CD # will come up at the bottom right corner of the screen. that means your onto the changer, then hit the # buttons to change CD's

So... You have an OEM CD head unit and an aftermarket Alpine CD changer attached to it. Out of curiosity, where is the CD changer mounted?
In my '99 Accord LX, I have the OEM tape player and an Alpine CD changer (CHA 620, I believe). There are two buttons on my radio, one says AM/FM, the other says Tape / CD. If I hit the AM/FM button I get the radio. If I hit the Tape/CD button I get either the tape or the CD changer. If I hit the Tape / CD button again it switches to the other.
I'd just make sure that there were CDs in the changer and start hitting buttons. The EEE message is an error message, I believe because the player can't read the CD for whatever reason.

Close. You were talking about a CD head unit with a CD changer attached, I was talking about a tape head unit with a CD changer attached.
Since it appears that he has a CD player with attached CD changer, your post was more relevant.
rtw118, just make sure there are CDs in the changer and that the CDs aren't in crooked or something, and start pressing some buttons.

yes i have the regular old factory cd player PLUS another 6-disc alpine changer in the armrest (technical term for that?). i put 6 cds in it and tried hitting the CD button on the old player ( to try and get it to switch from that one to the alpine) but sometimes it does absolutely nothing and sometimes it displays EEE. i know theres power going to it though because i can hear it doing something down there. it did work once, but it's never done it again.

Have you taken out the CD cartridge and looked inside to make sure nothing fell in there by accident? I still think that it's blocked somehow.
By the way, you could relatively easily put the changer in the trunk, it would go where the factory CD changer would go, which is in the back left corner where you have a plastic tray. The tray would be cut out and there are two holes (with plugs) in the floor through the metal. You would remove the plugs and bolt a piece of wood down there. On that piece of wood you would have two other pieces of wood (to make a three sided box, to protect the changer), and the changer itself. I did that back in '98 when I first picked up my '99 Accord, the setup looks sharp and you'd have the center console for other stuff again. I'd post pics, but I don't have any pics of how mine looks yet. Hopefully this weekend sometime.

Lol, I installed mine myself about a month ago in a 99 accord in the console where it sounds like she has it right now, I like it a lot better compared to when i had my old car in the trunk. I don't have that much crap I put in the console, plus it only cuts the space like in half. Then you can change stuff while you are driving even if you want.
