Alarm Armed, Remote broken...
I have a DEI Python 990 alarm. It was installed at a local shop. Everything worked fine for the past 4 months until I just switched out the battery on the pager remote. When I did so the pager reset itself and now it isnt communicating with the brain of the alarm. My question is, How do I put the alarm into valet mode or bypass it so that I can at least drive it the the shop. (Keep in mind that the alarm is armed/active and cant be disarmed with the remote) Can you put the alarm into valet mode when it keeps going off? Should I try to find a local person with a Bitwriter to override it? or even buy one?
This totally sucks cause I cant even start or drive my car until I get this fixed. Any help is appreciated!

If you have a key, there is an emergency override procedure to do this, however you would have to check your manual for specific steps. I don't remember then.
Do you have the valet/program switch installed or accessible?

Ya I have a key and I read the manual and couldn't find anything. I also Have access to the valet switch and it is installed.

The alarm wont let me reprogram the remote because when I open the door the alarm is active...Does that make sense? Or is there a way to reprogram the remote with the alarm active?

Well if the installer was nice and never changed the valet number sequence or told you what he changed it too you need that and the location of your valet button.
DEI has the option of 1-4 button pushes...[ Ex: set at #1... Open door with key. Alarm sounds and then goes off... Within 10 seconds take your key, turn the car to the on postion "NOt Cranking" and then hit the valet button #1 time. ]
Make sense?? Then take it to where ever you had it installed with your concerns and issues at hand. Most all shops that put your alarm in warranty their work through the life of the vehicle to the original owner. That is what we did at Ultimate Electronics.

I tried the above sequence and that didnt work as well...Could it be that when he installed it using the bitwriter he locked it?

If he locked anything it can be the programming. Meaning that you are unable to change anything in programming without unlocking if I remember correctly.
Not saying you didn't do it right but worth trying again...
Open door. Within 5 or 10.. I think 10 seconds without a manual in front of me. Take key put into ign. turn to on position and just push the valet button once. Don't hold it like you do when trying to program the unit...

no power to the radio? Have you checked the fuse? Are you sure the alarm is working correctly? You may have in valet mode. If you're not familiar with it, the alarm seems like it's working perfectly but you actually don't have remote start/shock sensor features on. Might just want to take it back to the dealer and have them show you how everything works. Especially the manual override sequence in case your remote craps on you again. That's why I went with a Compustar. At least it comes with a backup remote.

Then just disconnect the back up batt. from the alarm brain, wait a few min. and plug it back in.
The point is to cut power to the alarm brain, allow a few min. for capacitors in the alarm brain to drain their charge, then when you reconnect power the alarm brain will boot up properly, [assuming there is nothing wrong with the unit or it's wiring. 94

well if it has a back up battery your going to be waiting till it drains. Finding the brain is not hard if its not installed right. A crappy install you can follow the siren wire, shock sencer wire, vallet button or led wire back to the brain. If you can do this your alarm need sto be redone

The reason my radio didnt work and my alarm was having problems was because they main battery, the one under the hood, was b/o. The whole time the back up battery was powering the alarm and unlocking/locking the doors. The main battery on the car was so dead that it wouldnt even try to crank. So I replaced that...Let the car run for a few minutes to recharge the back up battery and now everything works!
P.S. It took about a week for my back up battery to finally die.
