Hey guys, I've lurked honda-tech for a while basically coming here whenever I needed to know something that I didn't know. Finally decided to make an account and post up.
Here's a little run down/ intro....
It all started back in January 2006 when I got the car. I was 15 and it was my first car. But it needed work. Under the previous owner(the daughter of the original owner), the old motor had given out on the road and it was towed to a local shop, where my dad works. She hadn't changed the oil in who knows how long and the engine was sludged to death. Ended up picking it up off her hands for $100 plus the tow bill.
So I had this to start with. A completely stock 1993 Civic DX Sedan
By may, I turned 16 and I had picked up a new d15b7 off ebay with only about 45k original miles on it. The motor cam with twin side draft carburetors. To this day I wish I had kept them, because I've never seen anyone with a set since. But here is the new d15 swapped in.
Through highschool, I went through a semi-ricer stage with a few stupid mods that I later removed.
When I was 17, I spent 2 months of my summer working on body work in between work while still driving it as my daily.
Anyways, through highschool and into college, she mostly sat unchanged over the past 3 years, since I have to pay my way through college, I haven't been able to put much towards the civic. And this is how it is for now.
Too many things went on between that paint job and now to list them all...the front was re done and repainted once between due to some old guy backing into it in the parking lot while I was inside working...but other than that, no real downfalls. It's been a solid car so far, and the d15 has let me hit 40-45 mpg on the highway to and from college, which is very useful when college is 400 miles from home.
Now to the fun part. 3 years ago, I stopped putting money into the car itself because I had picked up a b18b1 and I had a new toy to get ready.
My first thought was to just drop it in as was and get it running. But after seeing my buddies d16 with only bolt ons beat some bone stock ls swapped civics at the drag strip, I decided I wanted more than that. I spent about a year thinking, researching and deciding whether I wanted to go boost or n/a...I finally decided n/a because that's where my roots have always beet based. My dad has been building cars pretty much all his life, and they've all been n/a. So I've grown up around cammed out small blocks and big blocks. But the decision was made and I started spending money on the build when I could afford it around tuition.
Picked up some p73 pistons and had the block bored to 81.5mm
Went with arp rod bolts, polished the crank, and resized the journals on the rods at home.
Bottom end done.
Time to start the head.
Crower Dual valve springs and chromoly retainers.

Now the head is ready to go on the block
Clayed the engine just to be sure and for good practice.
Starting the full re-assembly last week.
That's pretty much where I'm at right now as far as re-assembly goes. But I've got tons of goodies sitting aside ready.

Things I still need.
-Sand blast, clean, and repaint the black box(oil separator)
-Waiting for engine mounts to get back from sandblasting
-new 2.25-2.5" exhaust
-Crank pulley, the one that came with the engine has a large chip
Once I get those few things, I'll start work on pulling the d15.
This has been a budget build from the beginning with everything except the block boring and rod bolt resizing done at home. I'm done with 4 years of college and I've got my 9th and final semester still to pay for, but I want this done before I'm done with college, so I'm pushing to get it in the car this summer. So I'm basically doing the mods that I need to in order to get it running. I'll work on weeding out the weak links when I can afford it.
So, for the last week and a half or so, I've had parts slowly trickling in just about every day and I've been working on sandblasting, prepping, and painting a lot of parts such as all the brackets. Yesterday I finished up mounting all the brackets on the engine.
Over the weekend I spent most of Saturday getting this rusty old 19 year old exhaust off the car finally!
And I've now got a full 2.5" exhaust on and ready for the swap, test pipe and all. It's got a 4" tip can right now, but I'm in search of a nicer muffler/tip combo that I will mount with a band clamp so that it's basically a quick disconnect muffler that I can replace with a straight pipe when I want to.
All that being said, the d-series comes out on saturday! I'm hoping to keep the swap time to around 2 weeks, all depending on how many issues I run into and how many parts I discover I need.
So today after work I got started with taking things apart and hopefully my engine hoist will get returned to me tomorrow so I can get the trans mounted to the b18 and get the d15 out.
And in the middle of it, this showed up via UPS so I installed it. Won't get to test it out until the new motor is in, and honestly, I won't be paying attention to the handling right off the bat.
Didn't get very far tonight, but I cleaned up the wiring up front for the fog lights. while I was at it. Got to pick up some tools tomorrow and get the fluids drained and then I should be moving along nicely.
The bedst part about today, this was the first time I've had the bumper off and I was very pleased to find a very straight radiator support.
After about 2 hours of scrubbing at the rust proofing.
And now after busting out my secret weapon, an old toothbrush! the rust proofing is gone from the firewall and everywhere else practically. Now I'm getting to work on replacing my bushings with poly bushings. Steering rack is all that's done so far.
Of course! Pretty much everything got plenty assembly lube from the bottom end to the cam lobes. It probably was a little dry by the time that picture was taken. It was about 4 or 5 weeks since the head was assembled that I took that picture. It's been lubed again since that and I still plan to make sure everything is nice and lubed before I put the valve cover gaskets on and mount it up proper.

Just ordered a hasport shift linkage since I found out the the ones I had don't use the same type of bushing as the b series trans. I was going to cut/weld them.
Other than that, I've got about a 18 inch section of exhaust I've got to fab up between the header and the front of the exhaust pipe and then computer and interior work with the pedals and shifter.
