Great work! Way to handle the trim RIGHT. Duplicolor or SEM paint?
Score on the CRX! EDM headlights/corners for the rex?! :D

SEM trim paint. Stuff is by far the best I have used.
The CRX is gonna probably be mostly EDM stuff. gonna try to track down a few JDM/Mugen goodies as usual, but gonna keep the CRX mostly original.

Holy ****. Love everything. You can do no wrong!
Those Mugen wheels have never been my favorite, but they look phenomenal on your Prelude.

Re: Now for something different. 1986 Prelude 2.0 Si Retromod
Finally decided to get off my *** and try to get this digidash worked on. The plan originally was to use a NOS DX gauge shroud, but that didn't fit at all and wouldn't be worth destroying for the sake of failure. So I have decided the only course of action is to fix the damaged digidash shroud.
full break down with all parts taken out:
even have, the leveling window which is missing on the usdm dash, yet has a plug for the hole to install it.
pretty rough shape:
the pieces:
So this was going to require a good amount of epoxy and imagination. The right side button housing was completely broken and the left lower side for the switches were cracked as well.
Filling the seams with epoxy and it was set in place after a minute or two with the help of a heat gun.
post was broken here, as well as a crack that ran up the left side of the switch hole area and ran up to the right side switch pod.
the section just above the lower switch area had a long crack that ran from one side to the other basically, one post was broken as well.
managed the piece the right side switch pod area back together.
all the epoxy repairs held amazingly well and after 24hrs were nice and cured and ready to try and fill the gaps that were left from the cracks.
I decided to use Tamiya modelling putty to fill the gaps. It was designed for use with plastics so I figured it was worth a try and honestly, so far it's working pretty damn well. A little while to get used to especially since it cures rather fast and has to be applied quickly and can get messy.
already looking MUCH better. Just need to go over a few more areas and sand it smooth. After that some paint and it will be ready.
Figure that sets be at around 20% complete for getting this digidash installed. Luckily the prelude will be coming off the road for the winter as it is in some pretty dire rust work in a few areas and have decided to basically do an entire paint job and body clean up. Gonna suck since it will require removing the rear glass (rust under the rear winder trim between glass and trunk) So that has the potential to be expensive. I can get glass in case it breaks so that's not the big worry.
Hope to have more frequent updates as I actually will be working on the car this winter instead of driving it as I have the past 5 years. (hence the rust....)

Re: Now for something different. 1986 Prelude 2.0 Si Retromod
just wanted to say i love the build!
my father had a 86 SI that i grew up driving around in with him and this reminds me so much of it. I remember his idled so quite you could bearly hear it, and by the time he sold it he had racked up 400k miles but it was one hell of a car.
great find so clean !!!!! good work!!!!

Great work. Keep it up. Nice on the new '87 CRX as well.
For the digidash surround: if the model-kit putty doesn't end up working out, I love this stuff, from Harbor Freight:
Epoxy Putty Stick
Keep us posted.

The basic work on it is done at this point. Just gonna go by a good local auto store tomorrow or this weekend to pick up some SEM dyes to get this thing cleaned up and painted.
Hardest part is still to come. The damn wiring is gonna be a mess, unless I can find someone with the pin outs for both the usdm si dash harness and the prelude xx dash harness. I know exactly how I can make the digidash work it's just a matter of getting the proper information. Service manuals for both cars have left me with more questions than answers lol

Picked up this odd goodie for the CRX build.
Didn't even know they had the parts catalogs available on microfiche. Gonna get it converted to .pdf so it's at least usable and just keep this as a cool collectors piece of weird Honda stuff.
Now it's time to start the deep dive on looking for CRX parts.

Wow, that's really cool! I thought it was a microfilm at first, but wasn't entirely sure. I actually thought it may have been replacement screens for a gauge cluster.

Took the CRX to have the rear bumper painted as well as the sunroof skin. Had to leave it at the shop over night and drove the lude in today. Can't wait until I can daily the CRX and give the lude a much needed break.
Gonna be a looooong winter.

Re: Now for something different. 1986 Prelude 2.0 Si Retromod
Cars have both been basically sitting since the beginning of January in the driveway. Only real issue has been trying to keep them relatively clean from the snow and ice. This winter seriously cannot end soon enough. The Prelude is in dire need of bodywork and at this point may need a mini restoration as some areas of rust have gotten worse and will probably need to be cut out and replaced.
Here are a few pics of before I parked the CRX and got the rear bumper painted.
CRX still needs some minor paint work. Might have the whole front end resprayed since the bumper needs paint and the hood has some minor dings/dents in it from hurricane sandy. The rear spoiler is also startingt o crack so I may replace it with the heel toe mugen replica since it's made of fiberglass and won't crack like the oem foam spoiler tend to do
Aside from that the only other thing That will be done for the CRX is refinishing the MR5s and installing those. The 1G rare parts game is ridiculous so it's gonna stay oem and stock.
And just a few snow pics to show the real struggle lol
all cleaned off with a leaf blower.
I also saw a post recently on jalopnik about this fluid film stuff to protect the car from corrosion.
Gonna apply some to the CRX and see how well it works. Gotta be better than nothing.
and now I pretty much play the waiting game. The weather is still **** no neither car has been driven since the first snow fall back in january. The MR5s are being stripped of paint this week and the barrels are being repolishing as well. Should be able to hopefully reassemble them next week. And then just wait until mid/end of March before I can enjoy these cars again.
