Default My RHD eg restoration

Hello hondatech, I am pretty new here as I've never really posted anything before, but I have used the site for years. I have recently started a new build of my rhd eg6. I purchased the car for a pretty damn good deal but the body is in pretty rough shape. I previously built a k20a type r eg hatch in the past about 3 years ago, but I traded that car for an s2000 and was pretty disappointed with my decision on trading, my eg was much better in my opinion. But time has gone by, I got a house of my own with a deadly garage and have aquired 2 eg's this past year and I want to completely restore my rhd one to perfection. It has a Jdm b18c type r engine in it, whale dick intake, type r header, and one noisy exhaust, between my two civics I am sure I will be swapping parts back and forth, but as of right now I do have a decent little selection of parts inside and out that I can put on either car, I would like to keep this rhd civic pretty simple and clean, I want to do a complete wire tuck with a milspec harness, and a complete paint job and rust repair and much more. I will be doing everything myself in my garage, and plan on making this one clean eg. There are rumors that a race track might be opening right by my house, so I may be making this a little bit built towards tracking it, but we will see, I would like to keep this car for a very long time.

Here are some pictures from my last build for my k20a eg.

This is what I found under an inch of bondo

And then I sold that car for an s2000, which I'll post one picture of lol

And now I will go on to the present, this is my rhd eg

And this is my green eg hatch

This is the garage I now own

Fixed it up and painted a bunch, still have one wall left to do

Parked the cars

I put the rims from my rhd eg on my green one, my phone was fucked with dust, I got a new one after I saw this pictures

And now onto the build, I have started to strip the car apart to begin bodywork and all the other stuff that needs to happen to restore a car lol

Close up of the rims, I am not done polishing all of them

Rust, it was in an accident

Traction control to keep those tires from spinnin lol

It's pretty mangled here, gonna need to replace a nice chunk of metal

Gave it a quick sandblast, it's pretty bad

Rocker panel is fine, just dirty

Quarter panel is rusted through

Rear end is gutted

These parts are all cleaned inside and out and ready to be reinstalled when the time comes

These parts need replacing, but will prolly be kinda hard to find

Some of the front end off

And this is where I have got to so far, I have lots of work left to do, but I am in no rush to finish this as I want it to be perfect. Thanks for looking and hope to have an update soon.

Hello hondatech, I have been slowly working on the car and have made some progress, I have some more of the wiring harness removed on the drivers side, I have the fuse panel and charge harness removed, as well as the abs fuse box. I have the fenders off and the wheel wells stripped down a little bit, side skirts are removed and I have found quite a bit of rust on the rocker panels, not too excited about that cause it's gonna need to be replaced, I have been looking at the floor pan of this car and every seat is sagging where the feet go, I am going to need to figure something out to repair that. There are spots of rust everywhere on this car, there is going to be lots of sandblasting and repair work needed to get this back in the shape I want it to be. I have found a set of rims I want to purchase, I can't bite the bullet on buying them though, although I would like them for when I fit my quarter panels, the offset is pretty retarded, but when you are replacing all the panels on the car it's pretty easy to make them fit any rim size. I don't like cars that rub lol. Anyways here's some pics, I'd like to get this engine out soon, I drained the oil and coolant and removed the rad.

For a before comparison

Still lots to remove over here

More wiring removed from inside

And that's about it for now, I have cleaned up some more random parts before they go away, I am in no speedy rush to do this, I am trying to keep all the clips for now, although I'll barely be using any of them seems I need to remove all the wiring I am no longer using in the car,so I'm sure I'll have to cut all the oem ones.

Hope to have some more progress soon

Hello hondatech, I have been working on my car a little more than I thought I'd be able to and have got the front almost all disassembled. I would have to say I am about 75% there to having the car stripped, but I have the engine out, the ac system removed, the power steering system mainly removed, I plan to be getting a manual steering rack or deleting the power steering, I am not a fan of it. The abs system will be removed completely including the wiring for it, as for traction control, I still don't know where the system lives or if it's even In here, all I have found is the module, I have no clue how it would "stop" the tires from spinning, but that will prolly be removed as well. The battery bracket that holds it was giving me a huge pain in the *** during the whole engine removal, the two bolts that are deep down in the bracket that go into the frame were hella seized and stripped, no chance of getting it off without cutting the bolts, so I bent the bracket up to get the wiring and lines I needed out for the ac system from underneath it, once the engine was out and I could remove the brake line that was resting on it where I needed to cut, I could then remove it, but man what a pain in the *** it was the whole time. I will continue removing the front end before I move to the rear end, no too much left besides the firewall and drop the subframe, anyways here are some pics

The damn battery bracket

Suspension and brakes out, fluids drained

Ready to be removed

Firewall almost stripped

I undid my exhaust, and the only hangers holding it were the mufflers hanger and the header lol, some people haha

Pulling it out

Out and pissing fluids lol

Yes, my favorite stage of an eg lol

So I cut the bracket in half to access the bolts, cut them off and ground down the rest of the bolt in the frame

Abs module removed, front brake lines, charcol box and line has been snipped so far, prop valve removed and maybe a couple other random things

Kinda messy, but you get the point lol

Anyways I think that's it for now, I'll update soon with more progress, I can't wait to get to the body work.

I like this! Awesome color too.... CBP.

Could you tell me how the rear seat backs are fastened to the floor? It appears to have threaded holes, but I can't see it that well.

They were quite confusing to remove for the first time, they really are wedged in there good, you almost need to remove it all at once due to space inside, as well the bottom needs to be removed first. There were two bolts on each backrest, and it was locked by a little rod like the usdm rear seats in the center. Here are some pics

Right side

Left side

I think I might be spraying it Lausanne green, I am still trying to pick a color but so far that one is winning, I want to keep it an oem color.

Lausanne green does look nice but that captiva blue is awesome plus you already have one in green lol pretty sure whatever color you choose will still be a hot build glwyb

Hey - I've got an RHD shell which I don't need a lot of parts from (mostly just the interior) which you could buy stuff from me for totally reasonable prices. That battery bracket, for example. Though I do recall having some trouble with mine too, hah. I'm in Sask.

And although I love Lausanne Green also, I'm going to vote you keep it the original OEM Captiva Blue.

Thank you for the rear seat upper attachment areas. Exactly what I was looking for. I was curious if the factory used studs or bolts. Now we all know.

Yup they are bolts, I will dig them out and take a picture of the bolts if you would like and tell you the specs of them?
