Default 97 EK Hatch Build

Hello Honda Tech,

My name is Steven and this is my first build. I have had numerous cars but have always wanted to build a clean hatch and so I am finally getting to it. I have owed a B16 89 EF sedan, 2005 S2k, and 2003 Cobra. I have always done my own wrenching on my cars but by no mean am I an expert.

I consider myself a HT lurker as I don't make posts or comment much. I just use this site to read and read and read trying to find out as much as I can but I thought I would finally make a worthy post.

I am not a bid picture taker and don't take out my camera for anything so all pictures are from my phone.

Here is my build I am aspiring for:

Body:
J Blood front bumper (Have)
VIS CF Hood (Have)
Password JDM Fenders (Have)
OEM thin side moldings (Have)
Rear bumper with CTR lip (Have)
Seeker V2 wing BNIB with seeker base plate BNIB (Have)
Paint: Belize Blue Pearl

Wheels:
15x8 RE30s Formula Silver +38 offset (Have)
Muteki Neo Crome lugs (Have)
OEM SI wheels (Have) Winter set

Suspension:
Megan EZs right now with buddy club P1 camber front and rear
Fortune 510s Future
Powder coated suspension (Subrame, forks,.... as much as I can)
Energy Suspension urethane bushings

Interior:
Currently have Del Sol seats with CTR carpet
Switching back to OEM black carpet with STATUS seats
Interior scheme will be black and blue

Engine:
4 Piston Head with full Ferrea Valve Train (being built now)
Skunk2 Pro Stage 1s
Skunk2 Black Series Cam gears
Blocked bored to 81.5mm and honed (Have)
Micorpolished Crank (Have)
JE 11:5:1 Pistons
Brian Crower LW Rods
ACL bearings and studs
Jenvey 48mm ITBs (Have)
ATI Damper
KOYO Radiator (Have)
Mushimoto Silicone hoses with 12" Fan (Have)
Aeromotive FPR (Have)
Hondata s300 v2 (Have)

Transmission:
Y80 rebuild to OEM spec aside from Carbon Syncros and Mfactory LSD

Main parts so far. Everything is going to be replaced and refreshed either OEM or rebuild with OEM parts. Just thought I would ask a fellow EK owners opinion on my direction so far. I am just going with the flow. First Build but its going to be done right.

I hope I can get some good input from members on here. Thank for looking.

My car when I bought it 2 years ago

Engine Bay

My wife decided one morning she was going to take my hatch to take my son to school AND of course she was reended because thats just how the universe works and my car was totaled. This all happened like month before I was supposed to deploy so I bought the car back and it sat.

Well a good friend of mine who owns a body shop had a shell for sale and offered to sell me the shell and transfer all my parts to it while I was gone. So my wife coordinated all that and when I got back it was all done and painted flat black.

I don't have any pictures of it with the flat back but I did take a couple picks of my updated engine bay I did.

Fast foward a year and here is where I am

J Blood Front Bumper, Thins Side Moldings, CF hood, and Sideskirts

Password JDM Fenders with sockets and smoked sidelamps

Before some parts went to powdercoat

After

D series all pulled and sold

FPR

Block Heading out to get Bored and Honed and Cleaned

How the car sits now (I will be putting it up on jack stands in the rear just bought some more)

Did a bunch of part cleaning and bought some shelves

Organized a bit too

Thanks! No its a replica that fits horribly. It was riveted in there. When my car was redone it was fitted better without the rivets but still isn't perfect.

Default Update

Did a few things this weekend

I got the rear end up. Friend is bringing a compressor to make taking it out easier

Took the rear bumper, taillights, and more of the interior out

My block and crank were ready so I drove a couple hours to pick it up. I think it came out well.

Bored to 81.5mm and honed

Cleaned up more parts and put them up. Another goodie is on its way. Another update will come when it arrives.

Sorry there will be no updates until early next year. I was deployed. But before I left I received a couple things.

I received my 4 Piston GSR Outlaw head with full Ferrea valve train and bronze valve guides. The head is a thing of beauty and looks great with my ITBs on it.

I also got my Skunk2 Pro 1 Cams in and they are sitting right next to my head.

I pulled the rear suspension completely out. I am going to have to replace the trailing arm bushings and wheel bearings. I will also powder coat the trailing arms and those little arms at the front that connect to them... not sure what they are called.

I pulled a little bit more of the interior but was not able to finish it. Other than that just clean up parts and its almost a bare chassis. I have to say I am very happy so far. The chassis is in great shape and things really havent been crazy pulling it apart which makes me happy.

As soon as I get back its going to be ready to go to paint.

Hey Steven, stumbled on your thread by accident. I remember you telling me about the hatch getting rear ended not long after I sold it to ya!

Hope to see your build progress through next year!

Here is an old photo of the hatch before:

Hey Greg. Thanks for the support.

I have been coordinating some major part ordering out here. The wife says I have no more shelf space.

Ktuned shifter,Fidanza Flywheel, Function 7 Polished subframe brace and F7 blue LCAs, Spoon exhuast, S2k Carbon Fiber Bezel, 99-00 Climate Conversion swap, Cwest Side Skirts, Walbro Fuel Pump, APR Ek mirrors, ATI damper

My wife pretty much coordinated all the buying for all these parts. Thank you very much to all the HT members who made this hassle free.

AND if all goes well the wife will be in Dallas this weekend picking me up a 04 TSX. Ready to be back. Couple more months...

Nice! I'm waiting for mine to be finished up... For my 99 Si I converted to RHD, got the K swap ready, full shave, wire tuck, AC tuck, brake lines, etc...

Yours will be a beast once complete!

I am sure its going to be nice. It seems your builds keep getting better and better. I really liked your DAP Hatch.

The wife is shipping my transmission off to Syncrotech this week. Plans are carbon rebuild kit, Mfactory LSD, and Mfactory 4.7 final drive.

I bought a PLM Hytech header for Black Friday which came in yesterday. I also bought my JE Pistons and Brian Crower rods which should be in today.

Just getting as much as I can together out here so when I get back just that much less I have to do.

UPDATE

MINT CTR Headlights

4Piston Head/Full Ferrea valve train/GSR Transmission rebuilt with full carbon kit, Mfactory LSD, Mfactory 4.7FD

JENVEY ITB Custom piece- Will be for sale shortly

ADVAN 16x8 RGII/ VOLK RE30 15x7 - VOLKS will be for sale shortly

Alot of parts collected that I have already mentioned in previous posts. But you get the idea. Current status is I am having my bushing pushed out for my suspension so I can replace them with energy suspension and powdercoat. Once that is done new Brembo blanks, rebuilt OEM calipers, ARP extended studs will be going on and I will have it rolling.

Build's coming along very nicely, body is very clean. I am not a big fan of s2k clusters, i cant stand digital clusters absolutely hate the new si's digital instrument setup. Plus the Eks have thee best gauge clusters. I personally would have gotten a Spoon Sports ek9 CTR cluster, IMHO that is thee best Honda instrument cluster ever, i LOVEEEEE IT!! It almost makes want to get an ek just to get that cluster lol.

edit: awesome shot of the goodies...drool

I always loved the s2k cluster ever since I had my s2000. I love new technology and figured this is my own spin on my build. Thats another reason I am going with 99-00 conversion so I can have a 7" LCD. I would love a SPOON cluster but I am not paying upwards of 2Gs for one. I love EK clusters as well.

You got it! I had some 15x7s I bought a long time ago but ever since owning my Cobra I know what it feels like to have some wide meats and so I ordered the 16x8s. Traction is amazing.

This thread makes me want to build from the ground up. Looks expensive though! Keep us posted on the progress. Can't wait to see this come together. RGIIs are legit, I have a set on my s2k and love them. Good choice.
