Default Switching oil from synthetic to regular??

Ok my question is, if the motor been running on synthetic for maybe 5k miles and then down grading to just regular oil or vice versa, would that harm the motor in anyway?

Reason is, my motor leaks oil and always have to top 1qrt every 1k and getting expensive.

Thanks

Did you try switching to an higher viscosity first?

Have you considered replacing the leaking gaskets? Seems a bit more logical to me.

This was after a new headgasket too.

I've always been told that running regular oil after synthetic without flushing it can create a film inside your engine that will kill the bearings.

Boobistheoilguy.com will have the info for you. I'm gonna have to look it up myself later...

you will have no issues with this.

valvoline has a training video that explains and debunks all the oil myths.

basically valvoline claims that there is no damage and that switching between the 2 at any time is ok. there is no film build up, or deposits from one oil to the next.

only difference that may cause issues (unlikely) is the additive packages of different brand oils. as in going from mobil 1 synth to a valvoline conventional. the additives are different, and you may have a film breakdown as one additive washes away the original to replace it...

so, if you're going from a mobil 1 stay with a mobil oil. or whatever brand you're using.

"I've always been told that running regular oil after synthetic without flushing it can create a film inside your engine that will kill the bearings."

So what happens when you run synthetic blend or change oil brands?

ive read that chagning between the two causes the seals to swell/contract depending on which is being used.....but that was also on high mile motors.....anything under 150k should be ok i would think.

That was in OLD motors that used OLD technology gaskets, mostly in the domestic market. It simply doesn't apply anymore.

Nothing....it's oil, not blood.
