so whats your afr and timing at wot? ls/b20 motors
so what's everyones general tune look like? tuning all motor is a relatively new concept to me and im curious about what rough settings other setups are running.
for me, 11.5 c/r b20 motor using bc st 2 cams. wot my air fuel is 12.6 up to 13.1 and im looking at 24 total timing.
i havent had it on the dyno yet. with 24.x degrees total timing my plugs were looking perfect and they started to show faint signs of black specs on the porcelain at around 25.75 degrees, so i backed it back down to 24 for now..
what kind of timing retard are others using in their setups? just looking to see how i fit in to the mix and get a rough idea until i can get to the dyno in a few weeks. stock ecu map shows around 28 degrees timing, so it looks like i got a little less than 4 degrees taken back. 93 octane pumpgas btw

I have a b18b with- .50type-r pistons- bored .50 over- p&p ls head-crower stage 2 cams-drag header-100shot, my afr's all motorare a consistant 13.4, on the spray they are usually 12.1 ish depending on bottle pressure. all motor i always run total timing of 28 degres and on the bottle about 8-12 degrees

your timing and air/fuel sound right in the ballpark for NA. To be honest, I'd trust my plugs before I'd worry about where everyone else has their setup.

I'm running ~ 29 degrees Max on the high cam at WOT. Tuned with Crome. Every engine management system is going to be a little different. If you are in doubt, less timing is always safer to start with then let the dyno tell you where to stop (MBT).

14:1 is lean i wouldnt want to run it, though i had an internally stock ls motor with bolt ons running high 13s wot with no issues. anyway, this thread was intended more for nonvtec motors than vtecs

sorry to bring this back from the dead but....
have finally gotten around to tuning my internally stock B20.
AFR low load = 15.x some load = 14.7 more load = 14.0 and WOT 13.5-13.0
its pretty safe to run say the first 4 load columns a little leaner for fuel mileage?
plugs are super clean and have a nice golden brown colour to them
as far as timing goes i have played with it a bit but im not so certain on how to adjust it. do you guys adjust the timing by a whole column at once or by individual cells or what?
also, my timing on the ignition map in crome is in the low 30's for WOT. should it be one steady value as rpm increases or ?
also how come my timing is higher than everyone else's. am i reading something off the map wrong? it was like high 20's on my basemap but the car deffinitly pulls harder after i added 4 degrees and there is no sign of any knocking yet.
any help is greatly appreciated, TIA.

are you b20 vtec or non vtec?
the relatively lower static compression of the motor allows you to run a lil more timing, but i honestly think its capped by the lower VE of the nonvtec cams compared to the vtec cams.
the low 30s seems a tad bit high? you running 93octane?
i ususally do timing by whole load columns(like ill adjust all the 6 vacuum at once etc...)

non-vtec. I actually moved the WOT timing down to about 26-28. I was using an accelerometer (Gtech) to tune for timing it seemed to work pretty well but when i first started tuning i didn't have it set up that good. It honestly made very little difference being anywhere from 26-32, probably due to lower compression and a wimpy intake and cam.
Is there any good way to tune part throttle timing. The only method i know of is to adjust and watch to see if throttle position changes when cruising at a steady speed. What about for transition regions (small accel)? just interpolate?

BUMP for answers.
I've been reading up on timing and it's tricky stuff. EVERYTHING effects timing; A/F, RPM, VE ect. I really need to do some more street tuning. I'm only getting 23mpg with cruising A/F of 15-15.5; should be in the 16-16.5 ball park but I'm sure I'm going to have to add timing to acomplish this.
