Default Slow oil pressure build up?

Do you think the oil pressure buildup is too slow? The engine is a b20v with rm 24xx cams and itr rep pistons. Im using honda sm 5w-30 oil, ambient temp is around 30 deg c, this vid was taken during my first start for the day

Looks pretty slow to me. Typically see this kind of slow build up on motors with tons of miles. Do you have good oil pressure while idling/driving? What are your bearing clearances? If the motor is fresh it seems like it was built really loose. Another thing I have to ask is, does it actually have the correct amount of oil in it?

Does it take that long for the oil light on your dash to turn off? It could just be a delay between the sending unit and the gauge which can be common on an electric setup (I assume that is what you have) as opposed to a mechanical setup.

The engine is a fresh build, ill ask my builder regarding bearing clearances, it gets adequate pressure while idling and driving though. I dont think its a delayed signal from the sender coz it doesnt take that long to go up once ive already started the engine. It usually happens during my first start or after i've been parked for a few hours

It looks just a little bit slow to me, but where is the sending unit located?
5w-30 might be a little thin for your clearances..Id try a thicker oil if it were me.

sending unit is located in the oil sandwich plate behind the oil filter. Wouldn't a thicker oil flow more slowly, resulting in even slower oil pressure build up?

Oil sandwich plate is an optimal spot. I typically see virtually instant results from there on a cold start on most builds. It still seems to me like the motor was built very loose. Depending on how many miles you have put on it already, if the break-in coating hasn't worn off of the bearings this problem may be exacerbated slightly with time.

I would recommend stepping up to some thicker oil next oil change to see if it helps. If possible, go with a synthetic to lessen the possibility of a dry start.

I'd estimate the motor has less than 1th km on it. What viscosity oil would you recommend? Would a really loose engine die an early death compared to one with stock clearances?

I don't think running a little looser on bearing clearances would affect longevity of the engine too much. They say the most engine wear comes from start up when there's that moment of no oil pressure. Run a good oil and filter and you should be fine...

I believe most oil filters have an "anti-drainback" valve (check valve) that helps keep oil upstream minimizing the time to build oil pressure on start up. Might wanna try a different oil filter and see if that does anything.

For viscosity, your builder would be the best person to ask since he knows all the clearances inside your engine. If the 5w30 doesn't give you the pressure your after, try a 5w40 or maybe a 10w40.
Thicker oil should give you a little more pressure at the same rpm (until the oil pressure relief valve opens in your oil pump).

Im not sure how it will affect the time it takes to start building pressure. Seems like it should help though...Might just be the way it is with the tolerances you have...
You could also tune your ECU to take a little more cranking time before actually starting and/or raise up the cold idle target speed a little bit.

This. Because it is just matter of how fast oil pressure build up, not the pressure it self.
Some cheap filters have a weak drainback valve (or not at all) and when you stop engine at hot, thin oil start to draining back to the oilpan. Not in seconds, but in several hours. Then, in next start, oilpump have to fill it again.
I use only F20C's OEM "PCX"-filters .

hmm, im currently using the oem filter available here in asia, I believe its made in Thailand. the pcx filter isn't available here, any other suggestions for an oil filter with a good drainback valve? how about Purolator, vic or fram?

IF you can locate a WIX oil filter, use one of those. Otherwise purolator is good from what I remember, and the higher grade mobile 1 filters. Never buy fram.

It sounds like the check valve may not be wprking properly sonce you said idle and running pressure is ok.

For the record my ls engine has .0018 mains and .0015 rod clearences, and .0044 p2w clearence. Oil pressure at 200f is about 15psi idle, and 70psi@3000rpm. With castrol gtx 5w-30

would the oil filter contain enough oil to build up pressure faster? I guess I could try a different brand to see if it helps

looks perfect to me. btw those digital gauges always have some lag. try with a mech gauge

I dont think its delay from the gauge, as the pressure shoots up instantly when i restart it after a few minutes. It only happens when i restart after a few hours or overnight
