Default Skunk2 pro3 cams question

i have a full itr head with itr valvetrain and cams. i have a set of pro3's and skunk2 pro series springs but cant afford to buy the skunk2 pro retainers too. can i get away with running the itr retainers? will it be as reliable still?

and also, what would be the best B-series pistons (high comp) to go with for these cams (take into consideration the valve pockets on the pistons because of clearance issues with the cams. trying to stay under 82mm bore.

Let me know, Please and thanks.

oem itr retainers crack and break on stock engine, imagine with pro3, answer is NO.
If you don't have the money to buy a set of ti retainers, rethink about your setup seriously.
Also, pro3 are big, not for a mild or budget all motor build, for info my friend was running cp 12.5cr piston, sleeved 85mm 2020cc b series with pro3.

stock retainers may not give you the retainer to valve seal clearance you'd need to run those cams. You'd have to have the clearances checked.

They are but they make two different types of springs so you have to make sure you get the right type from them.

00Red_sir is right on the money. The Skunk2 Ti Retainers have been cut so that they are shallower down the valve stem than most other retainers. This allows them to be used with big lift camshafts like the Pro Stage 3's without having to cut down the valve guides.

Running any variant of an OEM retainer will have the bottom of the retainer whacking the valve guides.

Our Ti Retainers are 6.75mm tall. Anything that size or smaller should keep you from bashing on the guides.

ITR do but why not go with a forged piston, you won't have any clearance problems there.

seems like this setup might be to much for you seeing that your trying to do a budget build with pro3's

Aftermarket retainers like Supertech have similar clearances as the skunk 2 retainers and others. The main problem is when people try to run STOCK retainers with big cams that they get contact.
