Royal Purple - regular, HPS or XTR?
Guys,
96 spec ITR swap, stock motor. Daily driver, putting down pretty decent power (see dyno link in signature).
After some research, I decided to switch from Mobil1 + PureONE filters to Royal Purple oil and filter. I've been looking at RP found on local shelves (Walmart, auto parts stores, ets) as well as online retailers such as Amazon.
I can't decide on which to get. It seems like there are three types: the regular 5W-30, the 5W-30 HPS and the 5W-30 XTR. Which would you recommend, and where can I get that specific variant from?
Thanks in advance for the clarification. I searched and most of the threads with "royal purple" in the title had some basic questions such as mileage intervals and such. Couldn't find the answer to my question. I suppose RP made some recent label changes.

^^
I agree
Royal Purple sucks anyways. Read up on blown engines and wear on cams and components. I used there trans fluid and nothing but problems, switched to honda mtf, and shifts are smoother.
Edit: I will be fair to say theres others that have had no problems.. But if i were to need a high performance oil one day, it would be brad penn.

The info I've gathered about RP lubricants is that they are not made for every application, they work well in certain trannys and motors.
I personally run with great results the shell rotella t6 full synthetic 5w40 in my tdi and b18. Look around for used oil analysis results this is one of the best oil for the money, it has great results, and is close to a 5w30. Just bought a 5 litre jug for 32$ at canadian tire.

my engine likes RP over Mobil1 - oil consumption was cut in half when i switched.
you should get a RP, or any oil, that has an "SL" rating - it still has the zinc in it versus the current "SN" rating that has almost no zinc.
so, for you either find the RP that says Synerlec on the label (mostly discontinued) or run the RP HPS oil, as it is still a SL rated oil.
i was fortunate enough to get a couple cases of the old SL oil at a blowout price ($4 per quart) so i haven't had to buy the RP HPS yet... but summit racing is the cheapest place i've found for that...
and i prefer Honda filters over any other. i'm running an S2K filter on my engine - a B18C that is "built" as well...

I use to use RP until found out that it is garbage. I also use to use Mobile 1 before that but both companies went down hill quality wise. Pennzoil Platinum has some of the best cleaning agents for OTC oil and is what I have been using for the past 2 years
