Rich Porter Distributors, good or bad
Does anyone have any personal experience with these Distributors? Good or bad.
http://www.richporter.ca/ there web site is not very helpful.
My stock distributor has a bearing going bad. I have a 135,000 miles on the car.
Was looking for some thing other than stock. New OEM is about $300 dollars.
King Motorsports carries them.

Has anyone heard of these?
Come on Canadian brethren they are from Canada. Someone must be using these.
I can’t tell if this is good news or bad news that no one has any kind of experience with these distributors.

Re: Rich Porter Distributors, good or bad
They are good distributors. They use new components. But as with every electrical part that we have used, I see failures from time to time.
Overall, their failure rate is VERY low. I think we've had 3 distributors go "bad" over the last 4 years.
1) the shaft seal started to leak. Changed with an OEM honda seal = no more problems
2) one distributor on a OBD1 ZC engine started making the car run weird. I got a new one warrantied and no more issues
3) I don't think it's a major problem, but on a couple OBD1 honda distributors, the 2 wire plug rubber inside the clip is a little fat, so you have to take the one from your old distributor and move it over, otherwise it's almost impossible to clip the distributor clip on.

Nearly $600 or $300 OEM.

Hey, finally someone has asked about these distributors. Most people don't know I guess. Any way, I bought one for a 71 vw. Had piontless ignition and ball bearing, bearings. Worked like a champ, primo, excellent! 127.00 at bap geon auto parts. cheap price. O.K. also bought one for a 97 chevy 4.3 with a bad gear, worked like new, checker wanted 203.00 jeez! got on on amazon for 80.00 These look and feel like good solid units.
