Default Recomend: Valve Spring Compressor?

Im trying to install Skunk2 valve springs and retainers on my H22. I dont want to remove the head and was looking for the cheapest Valve Spring Compressor that would accomplish this. Also wondering how you keep the valves from dropping when you remove the retainer?

Its amazing what 30sec of time can find.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=474849

You will do it the same way. You will also need a leak down tester if your doing it with the head still on the car.

you could just rotate the engine so it would be TDC on the cylinder your working on and the piston will keep the valve from dropping.

there is also this valve spring compressor that bolts onto the head and uses a bolt to push down on the spring.

its blue and i see them on ebay. i'll see if i can find them.

Read the question again. Looking for a cheap spring comressor and not the $150 snap-on piece. Also trying to do this without removing the head. Stop crying.

No crying here. I know NOT to try and do work like this cheap. But if you must, once again searching is your friend:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1881352

And once again you can use a leak down tester to hold the valves up to keep them from falling down. That is why this can be done on a car is because your filling the cyl. with air the hold the valve up. Even at TDC the valve can drop to low to grab.

If you really want to be extra cheap you can put nylon rope down the cyl. when its at TDC to hold the valve up.

Again no crying here.

The autozone ones i rented before in the past never worked right and were too big. Ended up getting the snap on one.

The one that i posted for $50 is awesome, and easy to used. even if the head is on or off the motor.

I use mine all the time and never have a problem.

The snap-on one that was posted for $50 is awesome!!! I used it in combination w/ putting rope in the cyclinder to keep the valves up. You just have to use a heavy hammer to hit the tool hard enough to get the keepers back in.

Good Luck,

-Kevin

I just borrowed the lever style snap-on tool, so I guess it should be pretty straight forward from here. Thanks for all the input.

Have fun on the intake side. I use the same tool. Nothing beats doing it out of car though, if you can.

.

Chances are the valve keepers will fly out somewhere or worse yet fall down the oil drain holes and make their way into the oil pan.

Thats for a B-series buddy . You say that youre way too busy to look though all of the old threads, but you have time to post all of these BS posts in my thread. Like I said earlier, Im borrowing the Snap-on tool so what the hell are you still posting in here for? Got the Snap-on, end of discussion.
