Hello everyone,

I have a 1997 Civic EX. A couple days ago it started giving me trouble starting (the starter would turn when I turned the key, however the engine would not start). All indicator lights were normal.

So, checking the engine I noticed some kind of a hissing/grinding almost constant sound while the engine was between 3500 and 4000 RPM. It is not present before or after those engine speeds. It is not a hiss as that of a turbo, but rather a really high pitch buzzing sound, kind of like grinding. Also, oil was a bit on the short side.

On a final note, I have had the car fully serviced by a Honda dealer last December, when they changed the timing belt (as scheduled). Nothing else was wrong with the car. After that time, however, it has been driven everyday to work and back on very harsh stop-and-go traffic. The car is bone stock.

Does anyone have any ideas about what might be going on? Thank you very much in advance!

Maybe its a vibration of something that came loose and at that rpm it rattles just right to give you a noise??

Yeah, it must be a problem on the fuel line. The car is leaking either gas or oil, maybe a mix of both. If it is gas, that should take care of the problems at startup. I still have to link the grinding noise with the gas leak, however.
