Default Please recommend Head Gasket for 89 Civic

Bubbles in coolant, overheating. 320,000 miles.

Would like to be able to replace head gasket without having to get the head milled. If that's a really bad idea, please let me know.

I would like to know if the FelPro gaskets are OK or should I look at something else. Here are the choices from Rock Auto:

1989 HONDA CIVIC DX Cylinder Head Gasket

Are "Head Shims" required if I must get the head milled?

1989 HONDA CIVIC DX Cylinder Head Spacer Shim

Thanks for the help:

John

You'll have to check the head to make sure it's perfectly flat or it'll keep blowing headgaskets no matter what type you use. Felpro is fine to use. I am not familiar with the head spacer shim though, you may want to check with the dealer to see if they know if it's needed or not. Normally the small amount that is removed to resurface the cylinder head, doesn't affect anything.

i have used the older felpro black coated mls gaskets and they worked ok. but last week i odered a fel pro mls from my parts store like always and walla they updated the design and now there blue coated. so i install the new and improved head gasket and walla i have massive oil leaks in all the corners and rear of the head and block. in my opinion stick with oem honda or cometic. **** fel pro

did you have the gasket installed correctly? It sounds like it wasn't with all those leaks like you describe. I assume you torqued everything down in proper sequence and to the correct amounts?

YES sir i used a new set of arp studs ive been building honda motors going on ten years and only had this problem with those cheap jis ebay head gaskets. the funny thing is i had a cometic on it before and no leaks. i used the felpro cause it was in stock and 60 dollars. it was a mls gasket like always but with a funny blue coating on it. and supposeddly fel pro redisigned it. and arent using the ussualy black coating. this blue coating seemed smoother. srry for thread jacking
