Default Opinion on welding a block

What is everyone opinion on welding a crack on my h23 block?

250whp high compression big cam motor, used for autox and road race. Sees 8500 every time it is driven.

The crack was caused from the sleeve being pressed in.(that's my best guess). I saw the block after the sleeve was put in, did not see the crack. Motor sipped water from day 1 and developed a misfire at 1300 miles when I tore it down to find a crack, fml

My concern is the inconsistency of the metal and it expanding/contracting at different rates.

I know it will work and run, but for my application is this thing going to last more than a few seasons?

something to keep in mind: anything done to fix that crack will require shaving the block again, which will raise the compression more, and will affect those degreed cams requiring re-degree-ing them.

give a call over to the shop I use. they may be able to help you out, in suggestions, and in doing the actual work. and they'll be able to shave it much much smoother than it currently is lol.
their website says they do magnafluxing.

before just now, I never knew what magnafluxing even was. a quick search told me though that it is a test performed to find cracks or flaws in magnetic metals by sensing disturbances in the magnetic field, or magnetic flux.
seems its only a testing procedure, not a repair. and can only be done on magnetic metals.

either way, I'd say give my shop a call

Yea i have done it before, put a large magnet on magnetic metal and sprinkle special powder on it, the powder gets attracted to the cracks. Cool ****, but not for me

Exactly what i was thinking^

Welding the metal will only weaken it.
