mix and match cam combo
has anyone tried mixing cam to make their desired combination? i was wondering if anyone has tried Blox c\ jun 3 intake cam with skunk 2 stage 2\3 exhaust cam and if so do you have any numbers? im doing a high compression b20 vtec(12:5:1 or a little more) and im contemplating on the blox c cams and trying to figure out a combo to extract a lil more power. thanks in advance for you guys's help.

Re: mix and match cam combo
What exactly are you trying to accomplish by mixmatching cams ? Blox C are good cams, you will not make any power over it if you run a S2S2 exhaust cams. S2S3 will just not work too much duration/lift compared to the intake and you dont want that trust me. If you are sold on doing something like this you could try BloxC intake/ITR Exhaust, Same Centerlines wich would make them compatible in regard to v2v. It will have better midrange than straight C's but you will Choke up there. IMO Contact DDTech for Cam Setup tailored to your needs that will make you happy and save you money on the longrun.

Re: mix and match cam combo
The results will widely vary.. Some "advertised" numbers aren't real .050 numbers.
Most people do combo's like a Pro3 intake with a pro2 or pro1 exhaust, others do a S2s3 intake with a blox B exhaust, vice verse.. It really depends on what the motor's setup is, gearing, and actual powerband its going to need to properly see which camshaft to go with. BloxC's are mainly just a JUNIII/s2s3 replica if i recall, For something with the displacement and compression you have, I'd recommend bigger camshaft profiles. If you're set ona shelf cam, i recommend Pro series camshafts.
Thanks for the support Jimmy!

Ok makes sense now that you mention it. I still plan to get a custom cam from you in the future(gots to gather up the $$$$ lol) but i was just gathering info for the meantime when it finally get the setup running so i dont lose interest. its gonna be a b20 block with 12:5:1 compression with headwork and E85. Oh, and b16 transmission. i like the blox c cams better than the b's. the b's are trash IMO in the midrange area. I would do the bumpstix but they said they arent going to make them anymore. Thanks for you guys's help!

Yea, only real way to test your ENGINES response to any set of cams , is on the freakin dyno.. dont waste your time guessing, plenty of setups running several different profiles to get a good idea of what you will see with X-cam etc..
Check the dyno thread.. several plots with X-cam and mods to get a grasp on powerbands etc..

Re: mix and match cam combo
Im not lost, i just cant find any results of that setup i had mentioned. but im probably just gon try out the type c cams till i get the customs i want in the future. I brought up bumpstix because i wanted those originally but i emailed them and they said that they were probably not going to make them anymore as they are on back order.

Re: mix and match cam combo
why do you care about the numbers? The numbers dont mean a damn thing.
if you are looking at mismatching cams, you need to understand that some cam combos may run into valve issues and this is something you will have to measure on your own. Take one cam from a set and adding it to another typically means you have an idea of how each one relates to the power curve and how it will generally effect it. THATS what you are changing. F the numbers.

i kind of dont care but they kind of give me an idea of what i want ya know. i was just curious since i saw it in a thread but i cant find the thread now. i figured doing so would perhaps give it more power and still being able to have the desired powerband and cam so to speak. but yes from what i have been reading, numbers dont always mean anything. so you are right

Re: mix and match cam combo
Nothing wrong with mixing.
I would just always make sure using smaller (not by useless marketing numbers) exhaust than intake and check V2V (to get healthy amount of overlap and avoid disaster). Then degree intake to 100LC and exhaust according to close to minimum V2V. P2V worth cheching too...

yessir! i saw that a dude on here said he used a jun 3 intake with a skunk 2 stage 2 exhaust and it worked out well. but assuming it was a 2.0, he didnt specify the entire setup. I actually like the jun 3 profile and its copy, more so its copy though. im probably gonna use blox type c though until i gather up my money to get Derek to make me some custom cams. that way ill do a comparison of how fast my car was with the different cam setup ya know. Thanks Koczeka for the advice. Oh BTW, your car rips man i seen vids on Youtube.

Mar778 on here ran pro2 int with blox c exhaust and made more power than straight blox c's. Don't remember the difference, wasnt huge but it was there. Pm him for more info.

Re: mix and match cam combo
you sure? iirc, he made more power with the blox c's and ran them until the intake or exhaust cam broke. then ran the pro2 cam for giggles and made less. i could be wrong though

Re: mix and match cam combo
I run Rocket custom high lift m25+ intake and m25 exhaust combo... and I was thinking going smaller on the exhaust side, I have 2 set of smaller Rocket cams on my shelf.
No dyno yet. I might try it later since looking very good now.
Update:
I will mix now his custom m25- (very close to m24) with a smeller than m22 custom exhaust.

Hey koczeka, what the average cam gear setting for the m24xx cams? Just an idea/start

Re: mix and match cam combo
Interesting. Glad to hear people have done it. I have a set of crane cames stage 1 exhaust and custom grinded crane cames intake (roughly stage 3) Old Honda guru in the area sold them to me with my cylinder head. I've been getting worried about running a staggered setup like this. Hope it works out

Re: mix and match cam combo
I played around alot with a B series Vtec setups I had with different grind intake to exhaust cam setups and found the smaller cc engines liked a much smaller exhaust cam than what was being sold in matching pairs.I spoke with Rocket about this type of deal along time ago and he confirmed what I was doing would and did work,I also know alot of other good engines builders do this and its nothing new in the Honda scene.DDTECH also knows what I was doing with my engines with cam grinds with different size engines, like Rocket he had his own idea's on cams and was going to get some new ones ground but I no longer do any engines or research into this.
